Whats your favourite track to play to the non hi-fi visitor?
I don't ever try to impress my friends with my stereo. I did invite a friend over who had inquired about my stereo while we having drinks at a bar. I went to the bathroom while he was listening and fell and knocked my amp off off the rack its was ...
Mono Recordings
I don't think there is an attraction to Mono. At least I don't prefer mono to stereo, stereo is always preferred. But so-called fake stereo is not stereo. This may seem contradictory, but, there are albums I do prefer the mono mix over the stereo ...
Anyone use auto lifters? Opinions
I use two different tonearm lifts. The Q-Up is the better of the two which I've used for well over a decade. I do not have a Safety Raiser, but admittedly it looks better. But it also looks harder to position. On my Rega P5, the Q-Up matches prett...
Best Record Cleaning Fluid
I've been using L'Art Du Son for a while now. I'm on my 2nd bottle and a bottle lasts a while as it's concentrate you mix with distilled water. Before that I mostly used DIY alcohol based solutions. On my Okki Nokki, I have to spin 3 revolutions w...
Is this sign of getting old?
We're all getting old. It's about the journey, not the destination.
Does removing anti-skating really improve sound?
This is going to be cartridge dependent. No brand, not even model. Each will be different. I would think models will be similar, though. I've had cartridges that perform best with no bias, very little bias, and bias set much closer to the VTF sett...
I want to be moved and have the music touch my soul!
This is probably heresy. But my advice is to go see a live band. Go have a few drinks, dance, and get away from your gear.
Where would you sell your vinyl collection?
My view on the selling on-line would be from the buying side. I will look for a specific pressing on Discogs. So, if was looking for an audiophile record like a MoFi, I would list it there. Regarding the valuation, it's data driven based on sales....
Is there a quality website that lists upcoming releases of music
The bigger sellers all have either pre-order or coming soon pages.http://www.elusivedisc.com/Coming-Soon/departments/467/https://store.acousticsounds.com/index.cfm?get=results&ComingSoon=truehttps://www.musicdirect.com/music/?category=Music&am...
MFSL CDs: Dumb Questions
The easy way to tell a MoFi CD from an SACD is the catalog number. CDs are UDCD-xxxx while SACDs are UDSACD-xxxx, where the xxxx is the issue number in the series. So, it's a Gold CD. The Silver CDs were MFCD-xxxx. UD is ultra disc and MF is Mobil...
Cartridge alignment tool
I'm sticking with my Wally Tractor for my Rega. It works perfectly for me. I like the mirror surface and the etchings. I can align my turntable in about 5 minutes.
Amy Winehouse LP Sound Quality
I'm not an audiophile even though I spent money like one. Let's start with this. There are no pressing of Back to Black that sound awful. Some are better than others. No it's not "audiophile". It's not supposed to be. She was an incredibly gifted ...
Why Miles Davis late alboms are not well recorded?
Whatever, dude. He has 50+ albums. If you don't like the later ones, buy the early ones. I personally like the Miles & Quincy Live at Montreux. He died in 1991 the same year as this release.
Audio Reviewers & The Music They Use In Their Reviews
I'm thinking they didn't write the article for you specifically. There might be other readers who have different ideas. Nah, I'm wrong. They probably wrote the article to annoy you, specifically.
YOUTUBE and Vinyl are gonna bankrupt me!
Youtube has very little influence on me. What kills me is Discogs. If I see Chris Bellmen or Kevin Gray listed as the mastering engineer or cut by in the credits I end up buying it. I rarely regret it. But, I just keep spending more money. I can't...
