Anyone heard a K2 HD CD yet?
I've ordered the K2 HD Emerson, Lake and Palmer Greatest Hits (even though I'm not that wild about them) and John Coltranes Winners Circle from Japan just to check them out. There currently is a very slim selection of the K2 HD CDs available.Sounds...
Do flexible speaker cables exist?
Try the Gabriel Gold Revelation speaker cables. Very flexible with outstanding sonics. Not cheap but far from crazy expensive and IMO worth every penny.
Chamber Music - your best pick.
Any Piano Trios on Hyperion by the Floristan Trio. They have recorded a nice selection, I haven't heard a bad one yet.As far as composers I'm partial to just about anything by Schubert.
Jennifer Warnes 20th Anniversary Fam Blue Raincoat
Mick,This seems to be the case with a lot of remasters I've heard. The sound is "cleaned up" and some of the warmth or body is removed and gives the impression of brightness. Very unfortunate situation. I think I'll pass on this one and continue t...
Do true audiophiles own Mcintosh gear
I think the original question is insulting. Who are we to judge the equipment someone else likes? If someone likes McIntosh that's their business and fine by me. There's a lot more important things to worry about.
Cleaning CD player
My suggestion, inspect the skipping CDs first, may not be the CDP. I've had several CDs skip especially toward the end. Upon inspection there was some grunge toward the outer edge of the CD. A little cleaning with Shinola fixed the problem.
James Randi vs. Anjou Pear - once and for all
Why pick on Pear Cables? They're a small outfit. There are other cable manufacturers who have been around for years and "earned" multi millions of dollars. They sell cables much more expensive than $7500. Why not do them? Also, I'd want to see proo...
The Best of the Best Well sort of - CD players
I'm with Gsm18439 on this one,You should definitely audition the EAR Acute CDP. I'm not taken by its looks (mine has chrome faceplate and chrome knobs) but with the right tubes (2 6DJ8, 6922 or equivalent) it can sound marvelous and kick some butt...
Benefits of DAC & Transport vs. CD player
I don't think there is a definitive answer to the original question. From experience though, separates require extensive experimentation with the digital connection to sound their best. This plus an additional PC can add considerable expense to se...
Anyone heard a K2 HD CD yet?
Thanks Constantine,I see 2 Japanese K2 HD CDs of interest, an Emerson, Lake and Palmer greatest hits CD and a John Coltrane CD. I'll check one or both out.
Anyone heard a K2 HD CD yet?
HDCD (high definition compatible digital) is a process developed by Pacific Microsonics. It has been around for a while and involves CDs and CDPs. It's possible that a K2 cd could be HDCD encoded.K2 HD is a separate and relatively newer process de...
Pleasant Surprises
Tarsando,How can intelligent design "evolve"? :^)Seriously, I googled and got a whole lot of stuff unrelated to audio. Poor Mr. Darwin!
Anyone heard a K2 HD CD yet?
Wildoats,According to my understanding the K2 HD is a relatively new technique. I too have some CDs marked K2 but I don't believe they are the new HD variety. Perhaps someone could clarify the difference between the two. Constantine??
Anyone heard a K2 HD CD yet?
Constantine,Your article tweaked my curiosity about this mastering technique in the first place. Thanks for that. I plan to purchase one or two soon to check them out but meanwhile I was wondering if any 'Goners had heard these.
Gabriel Gold IC's are they really this good?
Jimman,I'm not sure they have a website although I certainly could be wrong. Most sales are handled through Audiogon from user name: sts. I think you'll find some information there and of course you can e-mail Steve for more info.
