Best new/demo/used value for $7.5K range There are some good choices there. My favorite of the bunch would either be the Revel Studio's or the JM Lab's a close 2nd. But both have different sound characteristics in my view. I personally wouldnt put either of the Wilson products(especially...

OK folks, what the best pre for under 10,000? The best pre-amp is one that does not color the sound or detract in any way. On this note Id go with anything from Pass Labs.
Good cd player and a great DAC or great cd player? Just so you know, before you even think about auditioning the Linn Ikemi(assuming its new), it needs to be on and playing a signal for a minimum of about 200 hours(about a week of it playing constantly)before you can make any critical evaluation. ...
Best 2K preamp, be it tube or SS Id have to say the Adcom GFP-750 is the absolute best. Or if you can get a high end version of this pre-amp by Pass Labs used you can add great looks to the mix too.
Pass Labs vs. Levinson Pre's Both are excellent units, I personally would take Nelson Pass's minimalist design though on a Pre-amp.
CD players with volume control ????? Ill take my ears over an Osciliscope or RTA too anyday, but when you use these tools properly to help truely evaluate and AB equipment they are priceless and very valuable as tools. People in this thread(like yourself from what I gather)take such ...
Paper Cones in HiFi? To add my 2 pennies, paper is used because of its lightweight(for fast transcient responses and dynamics)characteristics and ability to minimise sound coloration. Though its starting to finally show its age as there are new materials that will far...
Good cd player and a great DAC or great cd player? Well if this plan is for "10 years" then wouldnt the source be the last thing to get regardless?? Is the CD format going to be the frontrunner in 10 years? Like stated, the absolute biggest contributor(or detractor)to sound quality is the speakers...
CD players with volume control ????? Sorry, I have yet to find 1 single review where ANYONE used actual calibrated testing gear to level set and gain match components. And please dont tell me you have. This would have actually been mentioned.I dont know too many people besides myself...
CD players with volume control ????? I wouldnt call my review "negative" at all. Just be thankful I get around alot and always seem to get my hands on the latest gear. Since I am looking for a small 2 channel audio system for my bedroom, Ive heard alot of good things about this CD Pl...
Rotel RA1070 vs Krell300il/Krell 400ui Intgr amps The real truth of the matter is that the speakers probably shouldnt have been bought in the first place if they arent coming across as the owner would like. The speakers are what make the real difference. Amplification(even tube amps)and source un...
Good cd player and a great DAC or great cd player? Tobias: Reason why most people state to put most of the money into the speakers is due to the fact that mankind in general has yet to master the physics of sound reproduction. We can store, decode and transmit a signal that is therotically close to...
Rotel RA1070 vs Krell300il/Krell 400ui Intgr amps Going to a Krell from Rotel isnt going to give you a more "agressive" presentation. That Rotel unit is better than its pricetag suggests. Like Sonus Faber, Vienna Acoustic speakers are going to give a very mellow laid back style of sound.
CD players with volume control ????? I have to follow up on this. Had a chance to audition an Opus21 in my own soundroom with my own equipment, and was able to do a direct comparison with a Wadia 301 and an 861se. Level control was set between all units with an Audiocontrol SA-3055 R... |
