Turntable prices. Is my mind going? Just do what many people do and research gear in your particular budget, get a TT with good performance/reviews if audition is not practical, buy the best cartridge you can. Also research proper set up if not familiar with that. Use it till you kn...
Differences in YouTube, Spotify, etc. Apple Music because I'm stuck in Appleworld, and I don't want to pay for more services. Excellent sound on my gear anyway.
Amp upgrade, speaker cables or both If you decide to go both routes, start with your preference, listen a few weeks then the next. I changed several things at once back when I was getting serious about the hobby and had a hard time discerning what was helping what, etc. Cost me extr...
Preamp Gain issues with high efficiency speakers You could check with Al F. at "mapletreeaudio.com", He hand makes absolutely transparent high quality switching and routing solutions, much better than the Chinese gear. He might be able to build attenuators into a a speaker router or a signal rou...
Types of Audiophiles The Decision Relapser- loses track of the times he has said "This is it! I'm done/ I can live with this forever/ My long search is over, this is perfection for me/ Not paying this kind of money", etc., then reads an audio forum or some audio pubs ...
My Lifelong Quest to Make my Expensive Rig Sound as Good as $500 Headphones I have always loved the "intimacy of good headphone sound. I've come close with upgrades over the years, finally switching to tube gear. What helped me the most, however was re-vamping my living slash listening room (18X24 ft), moving my system to...
Your sub experience: Easy or hard? Since I use a sub for "bass fill" to obtain full range sound in a good room, not difficult. I suppose if one is a home theater fan and going for dramatic effects it would be much more difficult. I have a two channel system, so I can pretty much se...
Are Tube Buffers for real or even worth it ? Tried one with my SS gear years ago (also to a TFM amp) and the overall effect was zilch, not to mention it had a horrific turn on transient. It didn't give me anything like the wonderful results I got when I bought a Jolida tube pre. I gave the b...
Analogue from Digital Enjoyed Bruce19's thoughts. My source for new music is digital these days now that I'm older and simplicity, cost and convenience are important. I have built my current system out to bias toward an "analogue sound" and yes, coloration is built in ...
Need help buying new speaker cable I will no longer purchase cables with hollow banana plugs. They have great contact, but bend and crack if you look at them too hard- I rotate several amps, so I do a lot of plug out/plug ins. I'm in the process of having several sets of speaker ca...
Can you build a transparent XLR selector box? You could check out Mapletree Audio (.com) for custom signal router solutions. I have a line router and a speaker wire router from them. Dead quiet, hand built, No signal degradation that I can tell. They will do single ended orXLR on the line rou...
Nicks or McVie..... Love them both, disparate styles or no. Always interesting to me how such different talents integrate so smoothly into the 'sound' of the band. wonderful interplay between members. Do I have a preference? Christine McVie
Need a DAC Recommendation. I use all digital sources, so currently running an all tube system. I've used an MHDT Orchid for a while now and enjoy it very much, sound is warm, but not overly so. Plenty of detail. My second r2r DAC- they beat the pants off high oversampling D...
How many of you are digital only systems? Absolutely a convenience issue for me in using digital sources. DACs are quite good now, whether they're using NOS tech, SS or tube schemes or more advanced oversampling. With attention to the rest of my system in amplification and speaker choices...
Fav Tube/Best tube Agree E80CC is an outstanding tube. However, discovered to my dismay they are not a drop in replacement for 12AU7 tubes 100% of the time. At least if you have a transformer that can't deal with it's slightly higher output. |
