speaker advice' help needed I would offer that you might consider Proac. Either response 1SC's (just a bit higher cost than your target range) or a nice used pair of Tablettes. The only thing that troubles me is that reference to "large" orchestra music. These speakers, in m...
Linn Components I am amused that a criticism of Linn gear is that the salesman can't figure out how to make it work.
Linn Components Linn is discussed as much as any other fine audio maker. Just so happens, however, that people tend to gravitate toward the weird, the sensational, the freakish, the rare and unusual gear to chat about. So when you see a discussion featuring the n...
Think I'm going to try tubes... I don't think one has to give up on any "speed or impact" with tubes. Here are two suggestions. Manley 100wpc monoblocks. Or for less money the Cary Rocket 88R. You will of course need a suitable preamp as well.
Manly Steelhead - any downside?? The best phono stage I've ever heard was a manley design. I don't really know how to describe it, except for the fact that it was so amazing that it made one believe you had an entirely new LP collection.
What CD players have volume control I think most of the Wadias do.
battling the pops and clicks I use the Hunt brush before each playing, and allow the record to turn at least 5 full revolutions. This seems to reduce pops and clicks to a minimum. But, I still get SOME.
Decent Bookshelf Speakers ? ProAc response 1SC. This is the tried and true mini-monitor with almost cult following for smooth yet detailed presentation of voice, chamber music, jazz combo, etc. in a most natural and uncolored presentation. I have owned both the Reponse 1S an...
Solid state amp ultimate stop... Such as Memisis 18.4 monoblocks. Not inexpensive, but would qualify as in the Ultimate category.
Best Speaker for audiophile-grade small room rig The Proac Response 1SC is among the finest small speakers out there and would be particularly good with your associated electronics and music preferences.
Help..................... I am a little worried. Even new tubes can be bad. Had the same thing happen with my CJ power amp. I called CJ and spoke to Mr. Johnson who advised me that it was likely one of the input tubes. He mailed a new input tube to me at no cost. I put it in and voila, all was w...
need advice on downsizing system for smaller room As nice as your current stuff is, don't keep it because after all you want to downsize. My suggestion is to sell everything. Buy a Linn Classik with a nice smaller pair of speakers, such as Proac Response 1SCs or Dynaudio Contour 1.3MkII's. Put th...
Stereo Tube Amp Recommendations The old VTL Stereo50 would be a great choice if you can find one. This amp had it "going on" with excellent KT66 sonics, superb bass, liquid mids. The build quality varied with different batches, which is perhaps why VTL didnt' do so well agains't...
Best Used Solid State Amp for less than $5000? The Goldmund Stellavox amps are simply sunning in every sonic respect. They sell for $3600 to $4000 new, and are worth at least twice that amount. What about these little amps makes me say this? For one, they are ultra fast amplifiers, with clean ...
Budget Phono Preamp -- Under $250? I owned the ASL mini phono preamp and found it to be quite good. Smooth. But not as punchy as some of the higher end units. For the lower price, it's a bargain. But I ended up selling it when I purchased an ARC SP16 with phono stage. How does the ... |
