Anybody heard the new EAR turntable?
I heard it at CES with the Helius arm. It sounded very good. Harry Pearson is reviewing it right now. A formal review should be forthcoming soon.
New Cartridge
The Denon 103 ($200), Denon 103R ($250) and the AT OC9/II ($275) are the low end MC cartridges of choice. Lots of discussion about these cartridges on Vinyl Asylum.
JLTI can any one comment on this?
I and three audiophile friends listened to a Brinkmann Balance turntable with Graham Phantom tonearm and Shelter 90X cartridge, through an Airtight ATC-2 preamp, Airtight ATM-2 amp, and Avalon Opus Ceramique speakers. The phono stages included the...
JLTI can any one comment on this?
Vacuum State has two locations - Australia/Joe Rasmussen and Switzerland/Allen Wright. The JLTI was originally manufactured in Australia by Joe. The first units (which is what I have) had point to point wiring. Later Australian units were on a cir...
JLTI can any one comment on this?
I have a JLTI from the first Australian production run. My JLTI was part of a phono stage shoot-out at Audio Revelations which is why Audio Revelations now carries the product. I have also lent my unit to friends for them to compare to other phono...
Question on loading and interconnects
If you want a convenient way to experiment with loadings, make or have made for you a phono cable that has a box in the middle that has two sets of binding posts. I had John Chapman of Bent Audio make one up for me that had male RCA connectors at ...
Can we talk about MONO?
Another solution is to buy a vintage preamp that has the pre-RIAA curves set up on a selector switch. I bought a 1958 Scott 130 stereo preamp for my dedicated mono system. It works just fine on my pre-RIAA LPs.
Airtangent vs Kuzma airline
I have been in e-mail contact with a person that has a Conductor. He says that the Conductor in his system is significantly better than his ET 2.5. He has heard the Conductor in direct comparison to a Forsell several times and feels the Conductor ...
The Isolator: the latest rip-off?
Hi Turntabletweak,I have sorely missed my ET 2.5 since I sold it. Any comments you could make of the Conductor versus the ET would be very much appreciated.
Vinyl and long cables or interconnects
When I remodeled my listening room I kept the monoblock amps by the speakers and moved the other gear to a side wall in the back of the room. This made a 7 meter run from the preamp to the amps. I had been using a 3 meter pair of Purist Audio Venu...
Is Wally tool preffered for Graham 2.2?
Hi Thom,Just a minor point about the Wallytractor. You said "The defunct Cartalign (like Wally's) is mirrored, and works similarly to Wally's, in that you need to rotate it so that an index line points from the record spindle to the bearing pivot'...
Is Wally tool preffered for Graham 2.2?
I have two Wallytractors, another one on order, and the Wallyskater. The Wallyskater is the best device that I have seen for getting anti-skate set exactly where you want it. I love my Wallytractors and find them very easy to use. Switching from B...
Cleaning old record collection.. advise please
Any of the enzyme record cleaning solutions (Buggtussel, AVIS, etc.) will take care of the mold. The LPs should be okay afer the good cleaning. The AVIS fluids are a three step process: enzyme, cleaner, and distilled water rinse. Because you have a...
Record Cleaning Machine
I use an Audio Advisor Record Doctor for cleaning my LPs - usually 40-50 per month. It is as noisy as a VPI. My solution for the noise - ear protectors. El cheapo ear plugs for 25 cents a pair will work fine. If you find ear plugs uncomfortable, a...
How To Store Record Collection?
I second the Pers Madsen record rack suggestion. I have used them for a number of years and have about 5,000 LPs stored in them. They have a very high WAF. Very flexible as to how you design your storage space. Easy to expand. Moving them with the...
