Setting 6-ch. levels isn't as easy as you think
Welcome to multi-channel music. This is one of the many reasons why a lot of audiophiles stick with 2ch - MC is still "half-baked."Your choices at this point are to pick a compromise level that does justice to nothing but won't drive you too crazy...
Audio Research Ref 3 Opinions
I have no prior experience with the Genki BUT with all the pro reviews I have read & with all the descriptive positive feedback from users I have read, it was reasonable to guess that the Linn Genki had very good sound overall...By process of ...
Two subwoofers in smallish HT room?
Hi Soundprogression - thanks for the note. This particular Vandersteen subwoofer (V2W) is made specifically for HT applications. It does not have an external crossover like the Vandersteen 2Wq subs most audiophiles are familiar with. It's a line-l...
Is the JPS DIGITAL cable as good on CD as reviewed
I had a JPS Digital AC, purchased for use with my Levinson DAC. I found that it definitely had a "quieting" effect on digital. Too much of an effect, in fact. It crushed dynamics and made everything sound slow.If this is the effect you're after, y...
Two subwoofers in smallish HT room?
Thanks for all the input! Looks like I will have to invest in a second sub for my room. More than two subs in the room isn't feasible purely from a space standpoint, unfortunately.I'm quite curious as to why the there is a strong recommendation fo...
Only three manufacturers?
Geez - a non-audiophile magazine not only talks about speaker brands other than Bose or Polk Audio, but actually refers to "audiophile" speaker brands, and all you guys can do is rag on them.No wonder people think audiophiles are weird.
2nd system dedicated cdp: $500 Build quality a +
Just a bit more than your budget, perhaps, but worth it - a used Arcam Alpha 9 CD player. It's an excellent player.
Help-Line in my RPTV-need conditioner for HT
Try unplugging your cable TV from the wall, so that there is absolutely no cable TV connection, and see if the lines go away. A ground loop problem with your cable can cause strange visual effects.
Vandersteen-like "In-between" speakers
Yes, it does.
Vandersteen-like "In-between" speakers
There's no law that says a dealer is required to adjust the bass contour. Anyone with access to a RTA can do it themselves, exactly the same way the dealer does it. The manual Vandersteen provides even documents how to do it without a RTA.
Triangle and Green Dot....What are they?
The triangle indicates that the device is an isolated ground receptacle.
Denon DVD2910 or ARCAM DV78/79???
I've owned Denons and evaluated the current stuff. I have an Arcam now. The Denon players have lots of features for the money. The Arcams have performance.
I'm totally confused about Hi Rez formats
Yes, there is lots of new vinyl. If you're into hip-hop, techno, and indie punk/alternative, or are a DJ or scratcher, there's lots and lots of new vinyl. That's the bulk of it. There's also a steady, but statistically insignificant, re-issue mark...
transparent plus or straightwire rhapsody
Maxwell - asking this question is like asking, "Which is better - royal blue or navy blue?" You need to listen to both and decide for yourself. This is a poor site for considered opinion - many product opinions posted here are tainted by personal ...

I have to disagree with Pabelson. Not all DVD-As can be played in 2ch. Many do not have 2ch tracks; they only have multichannel tracks. Some can be "downmixed" by the DVD-A player from MC to 2ch, but many have a software flag set that disallows do...
