Theta Enterprise or Ayre V1x with Vandy 5A
I suggest you try different cables before you try a different amp. You might find that a different cable gets rid of your lean mid-bass problem.
Name 1 Cable in your system you could not live w/o
One cable in my system that I could not live without? The cable that runs from the breaker box to the power outlet.Without it, the system sounds lifeless. I don't know why ;-)
hearing everything from your vandy 5a`s
Pretty much any large orchestral work.
Help in SACD problem
From your description it appears to me that your surround setup may not be optimized to work with the way Telarc uses the various surround channels on SACD. Read Telarc's website to understand how they do it, and then check whether your system is ...
Any recording musicians here?
I used to be one (and a recording engineer) from the mid/late '80s into the early '90s. It was a part-time thing that consumed all of my time :-) It was a mixed digital/analog world then. Signal processing was (as it is now) pretty much all-digita...
SACD - Dying already?
jdaniel writes:Rex: EMI doesn't manufacture SACDs...yet. They are looking into it.Well, that's weird - I guess the EMI SACDs in my collection don't actually exist. They must be a figment of my imagination! Perhaps you're right - maybe I dreamed th...
SACD - Dying already?
Well, jdaniel - your theory sounds quite clever, but there's one small problem with it:The companies that are the driving force behind SACD and DVD-A (Sony/Philips/Warner/EMI/Universal/BMG etc.) are all still firmly entrenched in what you call "19...
SACD - Dying already?
My point was that a result of Sony's business decision was to cause confusion among the public, slowing the growth of hi-res digital. When I have talked about SACD with my non-audiophile friends and acquaintances, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM has said,...
Any DAC better than the MF A324 Upsampler?
I agree with Unclejeff - at that price range, you're fine right where you are. The A324 is a good unit.
Is this rude?
It's not rude, it's dishonest. If you're only willing to buy used gear via private sale, you must also be willing to take the risks associated with buying used. If you're not willing to take the risks, don't buy used gear.
Universal Digital Players
The vast majority of the universal players use Pioneer OEM kits. Many of the mid-fi players are Pioneer OEM kits (Pioneer, Onkyo, etc.) Nearly all of the "high-end" players are Pioneer OEM kits (Lexicon, McCormack, Teac, etc.). The bulk of the rem...
Maggie's and cats
When I had Maggies I had a local seamstress make me a set of custom heavy vinyl slipcovers for the speakers. It had two benefits - it kept the cats from clawing the speakers, and it kept UV light off the speakers. I simply removed the slipcovers w...
Theta Pro Gen Va Balanced & Levinson 360S
I own a Levison No. 360S. I would buy it again in a heartbeat. It's the best DAC I've ever heard. Bass is stronger than the Theta's, and the soundstage is wider.
How long for tube break in
About 20 minutes. If they don't sound right after 20 minutes, there's something wrong with one or more of the tubes.
Question to Levinson DAC Owners
I'm using a 360S with a Sony SCD-1 as a transport. The combination works great.I've tried various transports and players used as transports, and they all sound different. The cheaper the transport, the worse it sounds. The cheap DVD players are th...
