Speakers for a unique small room
On second thought - would you have the opportunity to audition some Quads, say the S2 or the Z1? And another observation. If you want soundstage you should clear the space between the speakers. Get the rack under the window. Or keep the rack and ...
Speakers for a unique small room
Wilson TuneTots. They work well placed next to walls, in a small room. I tried many “best in class” bookshelf speakers from Magico, Raidho etc. While my favourite, cost no object are the Raidho TD 1.2 (I haven’t had the chance to listen to the Bor...
Amir and Blind Testing
and I will assume for the sake of this conversation that Amir is well intended and professes what he believes to be true. I will assume that his forum is his pet project meant to “debunk” years of supremacist audiophile unobtanium. The happy few ...
Amir and Blind Testing
End of the day let’s all agree to disagree. Some people enjoy Amir’s opinions. Others don’t.   I personally can’t be bothered to validate or comment on his experiments because, unlike Amir, who KNOWS he can’t be wrong because his numbers don’t li...
Amir and Blind Testing
Currently it is an LLC (Audio Science Review LLC, registered in Washington State). It is not setup as a non-profit with respect to IRS so unfortunately your donations are not tax deductible. Worse yet, I have to pay taxes on them. Edit: I am hi...
Amir and Blind Testing
Dear Noske, Alexander Dumas once said something very wise: all generalisations are dangerous, including this one. If I am uncomfortable about something, it’s some guru telling people there is no spoon and capitalism is rotten. That is Amir.  He b...
Amir and Blind Testing
Please supply a link to this video review.  I'd enjoy watching it, not least because I've not witnessed Amir bringing his wife in for a hearing experiment - was it an A/B blind test? Sorry Noske, this was probably about a year ago. Not a regula...
Amir and Blind Testing
I once wasted my time watching a video “review” of some audiophile switches. It was half an hour of blah blah blah about how his measurements demonstrated without a shadow of a doubt that there was absolutely no measurable difference between X Y a...
Weiss 501 DAC
I have mixed feelings about Asian products. Buying from China is NOT a blessing. It can take weeks to see your purchase, you risk a handsome customs bill, your box can be lost or damaged on arrival. Which leads to the next issue: customer support....
Weiss 501 DAC
You have to first of all understand that Daniel Weiss is a well known and respected name in pro audio. Even though he has an “audiophile” line of products addressing the home user, the company is heavily invested and primarily focused on pro audio...

Bookshelf speakers for small room
Regarding your Sennheiser HD800S, I would start by trying a tube headphone amp. The Atom itself is not exactly the bees’ knees as a source. You know the story: trash in, trash out. If anything the Senns are very transparent and tell you that your ...
Can speakers cause mental illness?
Do you expect the whole universe to be custom tuned to your ears / eyes / nose / taste / tactile feel? There is reality and there is your perception of it. Ears play but a small part in the larger picture. Your brain does most of the work. If your...
Separating cables, is there a mat to help along the way?
I am also not a fan of screened cables. In my experience the screen is detrimental to sound quality.
Separating cables, is there a mat to help along the way?
The most effective tweak for me is to keep power cables and Ethernet away from the rest. Which is why I have given up on thick, heavy mains cables.  I am not much of a believer in cable elevators etc if you have decent cables, as others have said.
