Shopping for speakers at $1500-$2000 is a chore.
Sunnyjim,Thought I'd weigh in here with some things that might be helpful. Yes, component shopping and swapping can make a person cranky; no argument there. That said, I owned a pair of the Reference 3A De Capo's; they were not 100% current: they h...
JJ 300 B tubes or others ?
Charles and everyone, Nice to have a clear consensus. I'm upgrading the rectifier and remaining signal tubes in my Kit 1. The 300 B's will be next. Nice to have a path mapped out. Thanks again!By the way, seems that Grant Fidelity is out of the tub...

High value, high efficiency speakers for SET amps
Hi, folks,I'm sorry for my absence. I haven't even visited this forum in a few weeks – it's been a very busy time. (I kind of wish that Audiogon had the feature that a lot of other bulletin boards have, allowing you to request email notification w...

Hear sibilance on Krall, Famous Blue, D. Fagen?
Hi, Brownsfan,The Kit 1 does use a 5U4G rectifier as standard, but my rectifier tube and the 300B's were backordered when my kit shipped, and when the tubes came Brian Smith was nice enough to substitute a 274 B tube as a substitute, which does so...
Hear sibilance on Krall, Famous Blue, D. Fagen?
Jea, Thank you, and very interesting, indeed!I listened to the track again today. All is well until she gets to the word "soon [we'll be without the moon…]." The letter "S" in the word "soon" is very strident. I'm not sure why.
Hear sibilance on Krall, Famous Blue, D. Fagen?
Almarg,Thanks so much for your ever-helpful posts. I have a Signal Cable power cord on loan from a friend but hadn't yet tried it on the DAC because my stereo cabinet only has a puny hole for running cables out the back and I'm not sure the beefie...
