Shure V15--A Good Cartridge?
I am curious what my Audiogon brethren would recommend as the best low mass arm to mate with the Shure. I still use a Grace 707 (20 years old) and would love to be introduced to a current production design that is as good or better.Thanks. Dan
Wadia Upgrade Question
Tclipse, I first met Steve Huntley when he did some work on my ARC preamp. Prior to this I had a pretty dim view of CD playback, but I was so impressed with Steve's work on my preamp that I traveled to his shop in Minnesota, where I had a chance t...
Stealth PGS Interconnect. Any opinions?
I agree with the above two posts. The PGS is my favorite so far. A friend who recommended them to me described their sound as "organic," and I think that is quite accurate. Not to be over-dramatic, but I wouldn't have thought cable could make this...

What temperature is your cartridge?????
I learned this "secret" from Steve and Ray at Pro Musica in Urbana Illinois in the mid 70's. They used a small hi-intensity lite and placed it about 8" from the cartridge while at rest. (Some old-timers may remember the "Pro Musica Phono Unit" whi...
Speaker Placement
The best placement aid I have discovered is a bottle of good chardonnay. Seriously, it does require a great deal of patience. The obvious, but often overlooked place to start is with a live, unamplified concert. But once the placement process begi...
Rogers LS3/5A Replacement Recommendation
Check out the Spendor SP3-1P. It is 2-3 times the size of the 3/5a (still relatively small), and uses a larger low frequency driver. It retains much of the 3/5a's magical midrange, yet with more extended top end and substantially deeper, and hefti...
Rogers 3/5 A speaker + AB subwoofer ??
AS you might suspect, there is a trade-off. With the subwoofer you will pick up another octave of bass, but you will give up some of that marvelous transparency. I sold my subs and bought a better (tube) amp, and have never regretted it. DO place ...
Wadia 830 or Transport/DAC
I bought the Wadia 830 used 6 months ago and am amazed by how good it sounds every time I listen. Plus you can have it modified at a later date, as I did mine, by Steve Huntley at Great Northern Sound. Awesome improvement...
Best CLASSICAL Compact Discs?
Thanks folks, this is exactly what I was looking for. Here are a few I have found so far: Schubert, 8th and 9th Symphonies, Karajan, EMI Classics 66105; Haydn, Cello Concertos 1&2, Rostropovich, EMI Classics 67263; Liszt, Sacred Music Transcri...
Best CLASSICAL Compact Discs?
No, my tastes are pretty eclectic, and I like to explore new interpretations of classic works. Just interested in the CD's you think are a good investment by virtue of both musical content and quality of recording. I do remember reading a thread w...
SS vs Tube: What do you hear?
Tubes V. SS is like color V. black and white photos. But the above comment about proper matching of components is important. Black and white photos can be very impressive, and SS can sound quite good with the right associated componenets.
Wadia Upgrades
Nathanu, briefly, here are some characteristics of Huntley's mods, of which there are several levels available: Transparency and resolving power are improved top to bottom. There is a sense of greater extension at both frequency extremes, but espe...
