Anyone has a reference system where amplification is SS ?
I always thought of a reference system as just that, a reference. In other words, something you can compare other hardware to in order to make a judgement as to whether a change makes a difference, good, bad or indifferent, to your ears. All syst...
Getting into the music
I feel your pain. Since retiring I have chased "the sound" and finally it hit me. I was wasting too much time in the critical listening arena and not enjoying the music. Then one day, on a whim, I tried out an old pair of Klipsch Chorus ll speaker...
Scent of an Audio Store
@czarivey  My  unit always smells nice
Does a particular musician’s songwriting and artistry speak to you above all others?
With each decade someone new floats to the top of my list. The days of Zeppelin, Grateful Dead, ABB etc are past, though I still listen to them. I spend most of my time searching for music from my youth I missed out on. Most of it is Fusion Jazz b...
"The Ultra High-End Speaker."
My 2 cents: Over the past 30 years I have listened to too many speakers to list. Ranging in price from a few thousand to nearly $100K for a pair. In many different settings with a large variety of expensive gear. A few months back a friend bought...
Integrated Amplifier for Sonus Faber Guarneri Evolution
I am contemplating a pair of these with my Luxman L-509Z. If I pull the trigger I will share my observations with you.
Have you found your "End-Game" speakers yet? I have. And it feels so good!!!
I found them. I can't afford them, YET!!! After the new  year I will be the proud new owner of a pair of Fleetwood Devilles.
Can you touch the tubes?
I believe this train of thought comes from warnings on head light bulbs in the auto industry. Quote: When changing the headlight, highbeam or foglight bulb on your vehicle, it is of paramount importance that you not touch the glass part of the bu...
Is there miracles in audio experience ?
The miracle for me was obtaining the new Luxman L509Z. After plugging more than a dozen high quality amplifiers into my system I found nirvana for my ears. No more l lugging heavy amps to FedEx. My neurosurgeon is very happy for me.
Primer on SSD and internal hard drives
The failure rate of a mechanical HDD is greater than that of an SSD. That would be number one concern as I don't believe the sound quality of an SSD vs mechanical is any different. And ALWAYS keep at least one complete back up of your digital musi...
CODA amp No.8, Bryston 4B3, or Ayre VX-5 Twenty
I have heard Ayre VX-5 Twenty and the Coda No.8, among many other outstanding amps, in my system. To my ears the Ayre really shined. It is the most musical power amp I ever heard.
What do/did you do for a living?
@doyle3433  Did ya get the buddy booth done yet? 🤣
One key to building great systems over time.
@pdreher +1 My root to musical enjoyment (not nirvana) followed the same path as you describe. The last building block is my digital front end. I bought used Ayre for my preamp/amp needs and am trying to nail down my digital gear. After some info...
Aurender A20 or Lumin X1
@vthokie83 I had the luxury and pleasure of driving both an M8 and a Porsche Carrera GT some years back. The seat of my pants told me I should opt for the GT. Sadly I am the proud owner of neither. My back and neurologist had different plans for m...
