Does this device exist?
Magfan is right -- You've just described the Mac Mini in your question -- which I use exactly as you have described -- with output via both a USB connection and Airport Express with a TOSlink connection. It does have a fan, but I've never been abl...
So what is the best speaker you have ever owned?
Krell Resolution 3. I should have kept them -- I've never had another speaker that imaged better or had a more realistic high end.
Do Blue Dots applied to LP labels improve sound?
If it was a serious inquiry then someone needs to break the news to Speacore about Santa Claus.I have always assumed that the "Blue Dots" ads on this website were either a spoof or a copyright-infringement detection device used by Audiogon.
Do Blue Dots applied to LP labels improve sound?
They will work if you use them in conjunction with a Lirpa Labs turntable.
Need Rec--Affordable Proac D25-esque speaker
Spendor s8e and Totem Staff would both be possibilities, IMHO. I have heard the Proacs, but never owned a pair, but have always thought Spendor and Totem sounded similar. Just one person's opinion, of course.
jazz at the pawnshop - rhapsody
Not, I think, the former, but perhaps the latter. I suppose it depends on what happens to the artists who pull tracks from streaming sites. I assume they do it because they think they will make more money from sales than from the royalties for str...
Paradigm PDR-10 Warranty
I got curious and looked at the manual for your subwoofer on the Paradigm website -- which includes the warranty. There is absolutely nothing in the warranty statement about a one year warranty for the built-in amplifier. Jimmyrod is right that yo...
Help a confused newbie build his first setup...
As you can see from the varied responses you have received, opinions on the subject are as varied as the number of enthusiasts out there. So I'm not going to suggest any specific speakers to you, or suggest that you buy new or used, or urge you to...
Squeezebox Apps for Iphone/Itouch
My guess is that the article was talking about "squeemote", which is available through the iphone app store and is an alternative to ipeng. I haven't tried it, myself, although I agree that the ipeng interface can be frustrating sometimes. But giv...
Best surprisingly good value component
In my case, it's a tie between the Vincent SP-331 Amp I purchased on impulse (which has now replaced a VTL ST-150, which cost three times as much, as the amplifier in my main system) and my Spendor s5e speakers -- which I originally bought partly ...
Real Music vs Audiophile Mumbo Jumbo
Personally, I've always felt that asking "does it sound like a live performance" is the wrong question, for several reasons, not least of which is that I don't think it is possible. There is something about the sophistication of our hearing and th...
Bah Humbug-Bad Christmas Music
My town also has a station that converts to "Christmas Music" after Thanksgiving, but plays mostly "celebrity" psuedo-Christmas songs, so I don't have it on very much. At the serious risk of getting flamed, among my least favorites that this stati...
Best Phono solid state under 2K?
I've listened to the Cayin at my local dealer -- looks gorgeous and sounds the same. Why a solid state phono preamp in front of such a terrific tube integrated amp?Not arguing, just curious.
Have you ever got emotionally attached
Rdavwhitaker: Are those Grafyx SP-6 or SP-6D?So far as I can tell from the materials, they are just straight SP-6s. They were bought from a Central Illinois stereo dealer (which, as I recall, was Grafyx's home stomping grounds during its brief life).
Have you ever got emotionally attached
I still own my first "serious" stereo speakers from nearly thirty years ago - a pair of Grafyx SP-6 bookshelf speakers. The imaging is terrible, but they still sound marvelous (rubber woofer surrounds, thank heavens) after all these years - I use ...
