how many have a WAF?
WAF means I have Revel F50's instead of Studios in the main system.WAF is aided with speakers that have good off axis response` so that music can be enjoyed while attending to life's chores, and not only while un the sweet spot.On our first dates,...
Which is better Arcam 85 or Creek 5350Se
I have 5.0's and I auditioned them with both the Creek and the Arcam, and I was unimpressed both times. I ended up with a Bryston B60R and I am very happy. Buy one used off of Audiogon. With Bryston's 20 year transferable warranty (don't even need...
I need to be wowed
I think that this one may be the speaker for you. MSRP is 2400 or so. I don't usually go wild for Thiel speakers(although they always sound pretty good to excellent when I hear them), but the 1.6's were performing well out of their price range. I ...
Digital front end for Bryston/Thiels??
I have a B60R and Soliloquy 5.0's. My cd player is a 6 year old Micromega stage 2. I bought it new back then. You can get them used or 300 now. Great combo.
Is my dealer lying to me?
The following is my experience, and where I think more money makes the most differenceMost important -- good amp/preampNext -- good speakersNext -- wireNext -- cd playerIf items 1, 2 & 3 are top-notch, you will notice the difference in item 4....
Soliloquy SAT5
I have sat-5's in my office driven by the 20 wpc NAD L-40. They sound terrific. I also have 5.0's at home driven by 60 watt integrated. All things considered, the sat-5's are an even bigger bang for the buck than the 5.0's.
Cheap Stuff That Keeps Up?
soliloquy sat-5's for $500 (300-ish used or b-stock)used as small main speakers (way better than similar paradigms etc)sonic frontiers sfl-1 preamp used for around $400 -- no remote and no phono but sound that is hard to beat. I've since had much ...
buying a stereo for my 16 yr. old
If you want it simple and good sounding...The NAD L40, B-stock from Q-Audio in Cambridge MA, for about 250, a pair of the small Paradigm speakers or any similar small speaker and decent wire, and you have excellent sound, remote, cd & tuner al...
A reasonable integrated w/ remote - possibly tube?
I'm very happy with a Bryston B-60. Solid state, of course, but great sound and built like all Bryston products -- to last forever. I bought mine used with remote and phono stage for around 1250, less than a year old, and at that price, it's a gre...
ACOUSTIC ZEN satori shotgun
My satoris run between Bryston electronics and Soliloquy speakers. All good, not bright, largely character-free in my experience. My Tara cables were a bit warmer, and that was nice in some ways, but I have no regrets about going Zen.
Bookshelf Speakers For 350 Or Less?? new & used
I had little Paradigm's and I heard several other speakers. I ended up with Soliloquy Sat-5's in my office. They are in a beautiful maple, and have the same drivers as their larger (and more costly) 5.0. Also, the speaker is a sealed box, so you c...
Inexpensive Pre with headphone jack recommendation
find a melos sha-gold. you won't be sorry. you can probably get a used one now for under 1k. i had one -- outstanding headphone capability and a darn good preamp as well.
Bryston or Classe audio ? what do you think of both?
I have 7bst's and a B60R now, and I owned a 4B NRB. I'm a big Bryston fan, but I always use a tube preamp with the amps (of course, not with the integrated). I've heard Classe in plenty of stores, and I think their new stuff is the best of theirs ...

Best Used tube Preamp 1700-- 2500: advice needed
Rogue 99 with phono and remote, $2400 and you can get it for less once in a while. There is a "magnum" version with higher end componentry.I have listened to a lot of preamps and I bought the Rogue. I think it performs as well as anything I have h...
