Vandersteen 5a Carbons
They are really quite different animals. If you like the electrostat "clarity" and the imaging characteristic of bipolar panels you will probably prefer the Summit X. The Vandies will play louder, go deeper (and better) in the bass and have a bett...
Upgrades to UHD Blu-Ray
Panasonic got out of the plasma business because they (and probably everyone else) can't make a plasma TV that does UHD/4k, so all 4k TV's will be LCD/LED or OLED.
What speakers for 10k?
Sorry for the dupe post; when the first one hadn't appeared after ~16 hrs I thought it had been lost.
What speakers for 10k?
You should also seriously consider the NOLA KO's which I think list for $10k; except for the deepest bass they clearer beat any of the Vapor models IMHO. Of course, like a couple of other posters here I would grab those used AZ Crescendos without ...
What speakers for 10k?
You also need to check out NOLA KO's which I believe list right at your $10k price. As much as I admire Vapor's philosophy and approach, unless your priority is the deepest bass the NOLA's beat any Vapor model IMO. Of course, like two others here,...
Stillpoints Ultra SS Orientation
I have found that for speakers they work better screwed into the speakers' threaded holes and Stillpoints cap down, but you have to be very careful to try to have the weight distributed as evenly as possible between the 4 Stillpoints (it won't hap...
Acoustic Zen Crescendo Mk2 or Daedalus Ulysses v2
Interesting thread! Like you and some others here, these speakers (and the NOLA KO's; keep them in mind, they are cheaper too) were on my short list for new speakers. I think the Daedalus are a little smoother than the AZ, and probably a little mo...
classical music source
digital for sure, hi-res downloads when possible. The overwhelming majority of classical hires downloads (that I know of) are true hi-res; natively recorded in 24/96 or better PCM, natively recorded in DSD (like the excellent Channel Classics labe...
cd-r music for blanks
Taiyo Yuden CD-R's are and have always been made in Japan, not Taiwan.Music CD-R's are an increasingly rare breed and usually expensive. More than that, the A>D conveertors in standalone CD recorders that required music CD-R's were never very g...
ILLusion Liquid Air Umbilical for Modwright units
As for my rectifier, I'm using a 1958 Dutch black base Mullard GZ34. I can't say how it compares to any 5U4G's because I haven't tried any yet. I do like it better than the Gold Lion; IMHO the sound is both smoother and more dynamic. As for the 5U...
ILLusion Liquid Air Umbilical for Modwright units
I'm more oriented towards Stillpoints these days; 3 Ultra SS under my speakers put my previous Rollerblocks to shame. Thanks for the info for Audio Magic; (for comparison) I was looking at the power cord prices on his website
ILLusion Liquid Air Umbilical for Modwright units
Can you go into a little more detail about these Audio Magic umbilicals? Where do you get them and what connectors do you specify? It appears to me that at least some of the models are quite pricey LOL.Our (Wig's and my) systems are pretty similar...
ILLusion Liquid Air Umbilical for Modwright units
The 5U4G is a drop-in replacement if you have a hole cut in the top of the case to allow for its extra height. The 5R4GYS is also a drop-in replacement; it needs both a hole in the top and a piece of the back panel cut off to fit. There are also s...
Porqupine Tree
Actually PT has not existed as a working band since their "farewell" tour in 2010. Steven Wilson is recording and touring as a solo artist, though. The sound at his concerts is typically excellent, and the sound quality of his last few solo releas...
Absolute Mystery
I avidly consume mysteries and have any number of authors I follow pretty compulsively. I read a couple of JV's novels and some short stories (in multiple author anthologies) before I knew he reviewed for TAS. I thought they were quite forgettable...
