Does anyone "throw away" Lp's ?
If you donate scratched LPs to Goodwill, you are part of the problem. Do your fellow collectors a favor and throw them away. An unplayable scratched LP is not worth a dollar. It is worthless.
Most achingly-beautiful music
Tchaikovsky 4th Symphony - Beautiful themes to his 7 symphonies and this is my favorite!

Audiogon "RECORDINGS TO DIE FOR" list
Let me get my 5 in as it sadly appears that the thread is on the wane. I have enjoyed reading through this thread and think it has broadened my musical horizons. Thanks to all who have contributed.1. Phantasm sound track lp Varese2. Mussourgsky Ni...
Which components knocked you out on first listen?
The NAD 1020 is a pretty decent mid-fi component, yet a direct swap out with the ARC had me amazed at the depth of sound and clarity. This was especially noticeable with complex or classical music, where some of the 1020 rendered muddled, ambiguou...
Trying to get in to vinyl, turntable suggestions?
Look for a Philips GA-212 or 312 on Ebay with a decent cartridge. I would recommend the MA-2002e cartridge. Check out the seller's reliability through feedback and no. of transactions. You should get 90% there for about 350 bucks or less. For dece...
Is Kind of Blue the Best Jazz Album Ever
Has been on my want list for years but haven't come across a copy.
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Today from a church thrift I picked up a 3-record boxed set of J. Starker's Solo Cello Suites. The box was mangled but somehow the records survived, hardly looking played. I'm playing now, they sound great. Not bad for 10 cents a record. When the ...
Most involving and thrilling moviemusic?
Myrow & Seagrave's "Phantasm" gives me all the sonic thrills I can handle - Varese Sarabande, VC 81105 Original LP - Not far behind would be Bernard Herrmann's "Pshyco" Soundtrack on London Phase4 LP.
Your ONE all time favorite love song?
C'mon...Somebody must have a favorite song by Schubert or Purcell
Best sounding LP nobody else has ever heard of...
Agreed - (see my desert-island 10)
Mercury Living Presence
I find the Mercs a bit more dynamic due probably to mike proximity and arrangement. Most RCAs seem kind of "mid hall" while the mercs are more "front row". Both display good hall ambience. The best of the RCAs are great, whereas the best of the me...
Audiogon "Recordings to Die for" a complete summary
My R2D4 or "Desert Island" records must be qualified on 3 counts: 1. Be vinyl (and played on analog gear)2. Be Great Performances and Great Sound3. Be listenable repeatedly, never boring, never tiring.Since the airlines are charging for extra bags...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Britten's Prince of the Pagodas, a thrift shop find for a buck (I talked them down to 50 cents) looked unplayed and sounds wonderful even though it's tas listed. (2 discs, London Treasury (orange label) sts-15081/2.
Audiophile turntables of the 60's and 70's
I recently sold my sota nova with sme-v arm. No real need to but just wanted to go simpler. And it doesn't get much simpler than the old, early 70s Philips ga-212. A very uncomplicated belt-drive with perfect speed control and good suspension. I u...
