Best streamers WITHOUT a DAC
@daledeee1  SBooster makes an  adapter for Lumin that allows you to hook up a LPS.  I upgraded the power supply on my Node 2i and it made lots of improvement.  I used a PD Creative board.  They also make Power Supply improvement for U1 mini.. M...
Best streamers WITHOUT a DAC
So, I fixed on the Lumin U1 Mini, which just arrived and was installed, replacing the Node 2i.  And the whole system is back up after repairing/recapping the preamp.  The difference is NOT subtle.  I feared that it would be, or maybe not much dif...
DACs and more. Is there a good analog sounding DAC.
Sonic Frontiers SFD-2 MkIII.  R2R using 2 PMD200's.  Tube analog section.  And much more.  No modern bells and whistles, just glorious sonics that simply sounds real.  Yes, it's old, but don't buy the "digital has improved so much" stuff.  SF did ...
Best streamers WITHOUT a DAC
Oh yeah, forgot!  Needs to be something with S/PDIF or AES/EBU digital outputs.  No USB.  Thanks!
Best streamers WITHOUT a DAC
Thanks, will look at that. Price range kind of open, would need to look at some alternatives.  As for features... - decent OS with Android phone and Windows control - support for Tidal, Qobuz, other  hi-rez streaming services, presumably similar...
Upgrading Maggie MGIIIa's to 3.7i - worth it?
I agree that the bass from the IIIs, 2.7QRs and 3.7is are sufficiently good that many don't feel the need for subs or a bass system. Understandably, however, I believe the vast majority just don't know what they don't know because they've ne...
Upgrading Maggie MGIIIa's to 3.7i - worth it?
Y'know, it's a funny thing.  I've never felt that I lacked for bass.  The speakers are in pretty large space.  The room is about 16x30 ft with tube traps in the corners.  One speaker is about 5 feet from the side wall while the other is roughly 20...
Network Switches
Thank you all for a very interesting thread.  I'm working with a 1Gb wired network that connects:   > Commercial server running Win10 hosting 5Tb of shared media files     available to all the devices on the network   > 1080 TV and media ...
Why you want upsampling and upconversion in a server and why it sounds way better!
The video/film analogy is a stretch IMO.  However, my impression is that the general consensus is that upsampling Redbook CD's usually does result in audible improvements, and I agree.  I've been doing it for years, though in hardware rather than ...
Disassembling BlueSound Node 2i?
The impedance issues with normal RCA connectors in s/pdif transmission are well established.  A few 75 ohm RCA connectors are out out there, but many dispute whether they're really 75 ohms in actual use.  And who knows about the sockets that the e...
Balanced to RCA
This is the best guide I've seen on this subject:https://www.yumpu.com/en/document/read/46700632/rane-note-110-sound-system-interconnection-avw
Another s/pdif digital cable thread
Thanks, not surprising. I’ll scrap the adapter idea. But problems arise. Some (more like many, I guess) say a true 75 ohm RCA plug is an impossibility. Nevertheless, there are manufacturers selling plugs claiming to be 75 ohms and RG-59 cables wit...
Another s/pdif digital cable thread
And a further question arose.....2 units have RCA s/pdif connectors.  From what I've read - I think - it's better to connect them with a proper 75 ohm BNC cable and BNC/RCA adapters at each end rather than just a "digital" RCA cable?FWIW, part my ...
"Vintage" high end gear vs new and upgrade path?
OK, sound advice, which all helps paint a picture, with one exception: Digital has improved substantially.   A better DAC will make a very audible improvement.  In fact, over the past few years,  price to quality ratio has moved more quickly in ...
High end vintage vs contemporary DAC's - are sonic improvements real?
I can't find much online about the Mk3 but the Mk2 version of your dac looks pretty killer very robustly built with a serious looking power supply! And some great reviews as well. Assuming the Mk3 is built along the same lines it's undoubtedly...
