Senior Audiophiles - Audiophile since the 60-70's?
Theloveman:Actually, marketers discovered convenience's marketability with the cassette tape. Audiophiles from that era forget the advice that we were given at the time. We were actually advised to make cassette copies of LP's for most of our list...
BBE Sonic Maximizer
I used the BBE Sonic Maximizer quite a bit in the late 80's when CD's first came out. I had quite a few concert recordings that were just of so so quality (bootlegs) and the BBE really improved the sound. I was using both EPI 100's and Boston Acou...
Less filling - great taste?
Arcadia Audio is selling some NOS Rega Ara's for $325. Excellent speaker and it gets better with better equipment. Replaced the NHT SB2 as my small speaker of choice.Regards,Rich
Tandberg Troll
Without knowing where you live and your willingness to ship the unit, but you could try The Sound Smith . They can be a bit pricey, but they guarantee their work and do a very good job. They also specialize in Tandberg repair.Regards, Rich
NAD C370 with Wharfedale Diamond 9.1's
Bob:They are both good products. The resulting sound will be on the warm side of neutral. If you are looking for a CD player that pairs exceptionally well with the NAD , try the Music Hall CD 25.2. The 320 has a bit more finesse than the 370, but ...
PrimaLuna Prologue 1 or 2?
Hi Craig:Congratulations on going with the Prima Luna product. I think that you will enjoy the Prologue 2. I have done well the SED Winged C 6550's and KT88's tubes that Upscale also sells. The stock tubes are pretty decent to get you started. As f...
PrimaLuna Prologue 1 or 2?
Craig:Between the power and preamp, I would say the biggest sonic benefit is in switching out the preamp. But then you are getting into a hybrid situation (tube preamp/solid state power amp) and you may or may not want to do that. Supposedly that ...
PrimaLuna Prologue 1 or 2?
Craig:Points well made, though if I follow your dates correctly I may still be older (damm). So, I own the Prologue 2 integrated and Prologue 5 power amps. With either unit, I have never found myself obsessing about 3/4 of the stuff that I read re...
PrimaLuna Prologue 1 or 2?
Craig:The Prologue 2 will allow you to use different tube types: KT88s (supplied), as well as 6550, EL-34, 6CA7, 6L6GC, KT66, or 7581. The Prologue 1 can only be used with EL-34. Each tube type does sound somewhat different. You may find yourself ...
Bob Dylan's Modern Times, a new Masterpiece?
First and second impressions of Modern Times ... it reminded me stylistically of a cross between Dylan's "Self Portrait" and the Band's "Moondog Matinee." Still need to do another 6 or so listens, but if my impressions are spot on ... Modern Times...
4 ohm amp into 8 ohm speaker or 8 ohm am into 4 oh
JM:Amplifiers/receivers are rated at both 4 & 8 ohms. As long as you are just running the one pair of speakers with each amplifier/receiver, your speakers and amp will be safe. It is when you add more than one pair of speakers to a receiver/am...
Cayin A - 88 T , sounds great but ...
Saki 70:The Prima Luna P2 can use: KT88, 6550, EL-34, 6CA7, 6L6GC, KT66, and 7581 tubes. I have used both KT 88's and EL 34's with the P2, as well as with the P5. I prefer the EL 34's with my P2, mostly because the speakers in use only go down so ...
Cayin A - 88 T , sounds great but ...
Saki70:I have been using the Prima Luna Prologue Two happily for the past year and a half. Admittedly, auto-biasing was one of the things that made me go with the P2, as I wanted a no fuss tube amplifier with possibly some tube rolling as the only...
CD sound quality
Nrostov & Seanl:I wasn't looking to stomp on anyone's parade. I left vinyl behind about 10 years ago for a host of reasons and admittedly, I am sometimes tempted to buy a turntable, because I really like turntables, not vinyl. I just understoo...
CD sound quality
Nrostov:My hunch is that bonvoyage has a CD collection and not a vinyl collection, if for no other reason than the NAD does not offer a phono input. Also, I am not sure how applicable a discussion about selling an 8K cd player is when the other pe...
