S/N ratio vs. dishes and stupid cats. At our ages, whose hearing is that good compared to 20 years ago? (And now the legions of listeners who can hear mice piss on wool are sure to chime in). Fortunately, these are all expensive TOY purchases anyways. Try living in tranquil, scenic Fo...
Small monitors for tv/music The Regas work very well inside of cabinets. The bass is very decent for speakers of this size.Rich
Musical Fidelity A3cr Pre compared to Tubes Read the review for the Musical Fidelity CD PRE 24 . I have owned the piece now for the last 8 years and absolutely love it. I picked it up new for $1300 or so, when discontinued, so it has upheld its price pretty well. I use it with a tube amp a...
Rega Apollo vs Cambridge 840c Azur Not sure if this is a reasonable comparison given that the 840C costs $800 more than the Apollo ($1800 vs $1000). With that said I have had an Apollo for the past 5 years or so and if I were to upgrade, I would upgrade to the Saturn. The Apollo do...

Good musical HT AV/Receiver If you could live with 2 channel and SW, I would suggest an Outlaw Audio RR2150 .If 5 channel is the way you want to go, then Marantz 5005 . Rich
Every so often it happens ... My neighborhood (Forest Hills, Queens) made out relatively ok with Irene, but only because the tornado that went through here last September brought down 2500 trees. There weren't that many trees left quite frankly. Then again maybe things sounded...

Powering Totem Sttafs and Rainmakers Hi Scott:If you look back at your original post you ask some very specific questions about using amplifiers with already purchased speakers in a set-up that is not too common ... two sets of speakers in the same room off of the same amp amp with t...
Rega RS1 and RS3 speakers RS1 has great bass for its size. An exciting little speaker. I used the Regas for two years with a Prima Luna tube amp and an Outlaw Audio receiver. I would think that it would sound better with a Rega amp.Rich
Music Recommendations based on Seven Albums Hi Mceljo:Some suggestions for you ... Le Violin Vagabond . In Full Swing . Note: if you can track down the SACD version it is worth it, but it is a SACD only version. Opera Gala .Rich
Powering Totem Sttafs and Rainmakers I am using an Outlaw RR2150 with a pair of Totem Mites, which are 8 ohms, 87db to the Rainmakers 4 ohms, 87db. There is definitely not a lack of power with the Outlaw as it is a true 100 wpc. The receiver is also stable at 2 ohms, see measurements...
Thoughts on current EL-34 tubes Interestingly enough, going with NOS power tubes is almost like having mods done on a unit. The cost for a quartet of NOS Mullards can be a 1/3 to a 1/2 of the cost of the amp and it is debatable if the effect on the sound is worth that much. Powe... |
