What mid priced receiver sounds best?
The Onkyo 818 receiver was well reviewed in the British press (Hi Fi News, What Hi Fi, etc.).The Onkyo has a phono input, if it makes a difference.I never had trouble with Onkyo products. At $800 or so, it seems like a steal, given it was released...
My Music Hall CD 25 just died
This may be a lay-up for you ... Marantz cd6004 . It is well reviewed, made in Japan, and just reduced to $400 from its $500 list. Rich
bookshelf speakers
You should be OK as long as are not putting the speakers on shelves inside of a bookcase, because then you would be putting a box inside a box. Up front realize that the speakers can be made to sound very good, but not their very best.Sealed speak...
New Mofi & Audio Fidelity CDs?
That's nice. The official release date for CSN is two days from now (August 13th) and there are no reviews out there that I have seen for the AF version. If you want to be the first on your block to hear the CD, you could do what I did which was o...
New Mofi & Audio Fidelity CDs?
Well ... the Audio Fidelity Crosby, Stills and Nash "CSN" won't be delivered by Amazon for another 2 weeks ... so it is kind of hard to say.Rich
Repair or replace my
Yes, you are showing your age and yes, you are a bit out of touch especially when you start comparing turntable prices from 35 years ago without accounting for changes in technology and price levels. The Rabco has the linear tracking tonearm, whic...
Do you know why
I would make the case that the records from the 70s and 80s were just as warped as anything produced today. I remember RCA Dynagroove records as the biggest offenders.Rich
Arcam r-Cube Portable
Any interest in this offering from Marantz ? The price certainly seems attractive.Rich

Putting together first system... clueless.
Am I missing something or do you not have an amplifier yet? If you go with Maggies, you will need an amp with some oomph. If you do need an amp, you best bet would be an integrated amp with the $1-2k budget. The MF phono stage is a nice piece, btw. ...
upgrade my amp?
I looked at some of your other threads. Is this question referring to the system in your smallish (10 X 10) room in the row house where you need to play the system at low volumes? If that is the case, I doubt you are overdriving the speakers. It m...
Cambridge Audio 651a vs. Outlaw RR2150
To continue from my last post, it seems you are in the $600 to $800 budget range. If you need a tuner, go with the Outlaw ($650). I do not know of any other moderately priced receiver that delivers as much as it does. Outlaw does run holiday sales...
Cambridge Audio 651a vs. Outlaw RR2150
I think you are being a bit rough on Outlaw. There were problems with the original supplier of the RR2150 when the receiver was first introduced in 2005. Outlaw replaced the supplier and if you research their forum section for owners' comments abo...
When is it to hot to cut the grass?
I lived in No NJ for 10 years and my hatred for cutting the grass was legendary, followed closely by my hatred for raking leaves which then had to be bagged and transported to a mulch center. Given that the teenagers in No NJ stopped cutting lawns...
Remember the year and first vynil you ever bought?
Glen Campbell's 'Galveston' in Woolworths in lower Manhattan. That was in 1969, when I was 11 going on 12. Was waiting with my mom for Sterling Optical to finish making my glasses.Rich
