Revel Studio Discussion- Everything Studio Here
Hi:I own Salons, so please forgive the slight digression.Brightness. I do not agree that they are inherently bright. In fact, they are rolled off somewhat above 12,000 Hz. (mine measure that way, my friend's measure that way, and John Atkinson's m...
Phono stage recommendations for under $500
Hi:I know you said MM and MC cartridges, but I will convey the following: I use a Bryston BP-1 moving magnet phono stage in my second system, and it is actually darn good (it is not quite as good, but only not quite, as the phono stage in the CAT ...
Poor sound from Rega Planar 3
Hi:Unless the turntable or arm is damaged, it is the cartridge. If you are using Rega's stock felt mat on the platter and a Rega cartridge, the VTA is pre-set and perfect -- you can't adjust VTA anyway with the stock RB-300 arm. Sounds like the ca...
Soundproofing Hi-Rise Apt?
Hi:I will make some assumptions and guesses here in an effort to help you find a solution. First, "management" usually will not complain to a tenant unless someone complains first to management -- management is most likely the voice of angry neigh...
Tube Monoblocks for Revel Studis
Hi:I am running Salons, which are presumably a bit harder to control and drive than the Studios because of the extra drivers, with VAC 140/140 Mark III's, at zero feedback, in a big room, with great success. It do note that 20 amp dedicated lines ...
Meitner EMM DAC6e Redbook Performance
Thank you to all those who responded. My statement "I have not seen much written about its abilities with redbook CD" referred principally to the stereo rags. That said, I admit that, after posting this thread, I did what I should have done prior to...
Kimber 1021 vs Granite Audio 470
Hi:I do not have any experience with your equipment (but have heard good things about your Cary CD player) or with the Granite Audio IC's.The KS 1021 is a very, very good IC. I have used 1011 and 1030 for the last three years, and spent about six ...
6C33C and 6C33C-B different?
Call Lamm or BAT, as they both use the former (and perhaps the latter).
Meadowlark Blue Heron 2 versus the rest
Perhaps this response is of zero help to you, but I mention that I have heard earlier iterations of the Meadowlarks, the Heron i, at Singer in NYC several years ago, and was extremely impressed. They just sounded right, and embarassed what was obv...
Rowland vs Simaudio
Hi:I own a Coherence II. It is incredibly quiet, which draws out elements of the music that are not audible with lesser equipment.I also own Rowland Model 6 mono amps (with batteries), which you have not asked about, so excuse me for volunteering ...
Abandonning Powered Speakers - Why?
My thanks to all those who responded to this thread.
Andra II vs. WattPup 7 vs Legacy Focus 20/20
I think you should (i) describe your other components and your room, (ii) your musical preferences, and (iii) open yourself up to other possibilities. All three speakers you mention could sound great in the right setting. Just as could the Kharmas,...
need help, looking for tube cd player.....
mcgrogan2 is correct. The SFCD-1 is a really fine tubed CD player (even today). Just keep it powered up 24/7 (this is actually MUCH BETTER for the tubes, not to mention crucial for the solid-state componentry).Good luck.
Wadia think about expensive CD Players ?
I agree with Budrew, especially his comment that the differences in players tend to be subtle. If you want a warmish, musical CD player that can be had for less than $3,000 used (the original version listed for $5,000), the Audio Research CD-3 woul...
Trouble w/VAC Standard 220's & Thiel CS 6's ?
Dear Apcdan:My apologies -- I completely forgot to address your query about feedback. All VAC amps have excellent power supplies and should have absolutely no trouble driving your Thiels with zero feedback (although the bigger Thiels, for their par...
