Appropriate Power for 1.7i's
The Cronus is underpowered for Maggies unless you have a small room and don't listen to dynamic music at 90dB plus. But it's a good sounding amp otherwise. Here's the issue: current delivery. Tube amps don't cut it unless they are about 150 watts a...

B&W 600i speaker sounds weird..
Peterknudsen - you probably just need surrounds which are pretty cheap. Any decent tech can check them for you first though.

The McCormack is a good suggestion. I'm surprised to hear about the A23 sounding flat - the cheaper HCA-1000A was a great amp for Maggies. I have the HCA1500A now and it does lean towards warm and a bit soft on top, but it controls bass very well....

Looking for a musical subwoofer @ $500>
Hsu - I have the VTF1 MK-III (2 of them). I find them quite musical with my Maggies. They are real easy to integrate.

Don't know what you have but it's possibly setup for 100 volt Japanese power which could cause it to blow up pretty fast if you're using 120 volts.

Your speakers need new suspension. Easy enough for a local tech to replace the surrounds.

You probably want 150-200 watts RMS per channel into 4 ohms.Don't get excited by the concept someone will probably chime in with regarding tube watts being more powerful. It just isn't true. You still need the raw RMS power. There are lots of used ...

Considering switching from Audio Research to PrimaLuna, troube with VS115 amp
jbhiller - Icon has been selling rebranded Chinese amps for a long time, not sure if that has changed. I tried one when I was living in the UK and it was reliable, but let down by very cheap output transformers giving it a lightweight sound. It wa...
Considering switching from Audio Research to PrimaLuna, troube with VS115 amp
One more thing from an old tube head: What is your mains voltage? Have you measured it? I have found it varies quite widely - in my area it goes as high as 127 volts at times. So I use a simple mains voltage regulator in front of my tube gear - AP...
Considering switching from Audio Research to PrimaLuna, troube with VS115 amp
Primaluna gear was originally based on a Cayin TA-30 amp (which I had years ago) with the addition of Primaluna's adaptive auto-bias circuit (which is brilliant, by the way). Sound-wise, the Cayin was designed to bring back the glory days of tubes...
