Thoughts on the new B&W 800D series speakers
The new 800 series are awesome. While the non-diamond tweeter models are definitely improved with better bass drives, midrange units, and tweeters that go out to about 50K, the diamond models are outstanding. The 801s are truly a candidate for one...
Which Krell for driving subs?
Ulf, I own the Audio Artistry Beethoven Grands and use a Krell FBC200 amp to drive the woofers. The subs sound awesome. Other choices may be either a Plinius SA100MKIII or an Aragon 8008BB, also designed by Dan D of Krell. The subs in your speaker...
Great Ska music
Russel, the above recommendations are good, but you may want to try the original Jamacian Ska which later influenced the English bands listed above. Early Bob Marley is an excellent place to start. Simmer Down, which you can find on the Bob Marley...
Spectacular Drum Set?
Rush, different stages . live The Rythm MethodDisc #2, track #8This is a spectacular solo by Neil Peart, one of the greatest progressive rock drummers in the world. Rush may not be everyone's cup of tea, but every person I have played this cut for...
Krell KCT Preamp
John, I have not owned a KCT but used to work at a store that sold them. I do recall they ran quite hot. Since you have a ton of parts shoved into a relatively slim box, the preamp heats up. I am not sure, but would guess that the power supply is ...
Quad 989s--personal experience and opinions?
Jeffrey, we are currently audiotioning a pair of Quad 989s in the store I work at and they are awesome. In terms of tonal balance, transparency, transient response, and midrange, these speakers are on par with the best available. Bass is actually ...
Cary SLI-80 bias voltage
No problem, P. If the amp clearly plays louder in the down position, that is indeed the ultralinear mode. Enjoy your amp. Cary makes wonderful products.
Cary SLI-80 bias voltage
P, straight off the Cary website, the correct bias voltage for the SLI 80 is 75-100MA per channel. While 75 MA will preserve the life of the tubes, 100MA will sound a bit sweeter. I am unsure of the switch position, but the louder position will be...
Can anyone tell me about the Cary CDP-302
Scott, the Cary 302 is a good cd player. Unlike the newer 303 and 306 players, this is the last machine that Cary did not build from scratch. Similar to the CD300, the 302 is based on an original Marantz player (I think, but could be wrong)and use...
Cary SLI-80 owners. Questions
Stuart, sorry for such a late response. You are more than welcome and please feel free to email with any questions about Cary or audio in general. Hope you enjoy your new amp. Patrick
Cary SLI-80 owners. Questions
The manual is lacking, but the amp is killer. I can't remember exactly, but seem to recall the forward switch positions as 40watts and the backwards position as 80 watts. Once you receive the amp, the difference will be obvious. Although louder wi...
"Polyamping" A Look to the Future or Fancy Fad?
Having not read what the others have already stated, (sorry but I do not have the time), I will flat out state that the Orions, even driven by the ATI amps and entry level electronics, are among the best speakers in the world today. I was lucky en...
Power conditioner for Krell Mono Block?
I plugged two FPB 350s into a single Ultimate Outlet on a non dedicated line and heard improvement in the system. Although not night and day, the Krells opened up a bit more with even better bass. Bybee Signature conditioners also work extremely w...
Please help tube amp for panels and SS for woofer
Tekunda, If you chose to biamp, doing so with four Wolcotts would probably be the best decision. Unless you use an active crossover that allows the indivudial amps to directly drive the bass/ panel drives without pushing the signal through an inte...
Please help tube amp for panels and SS for woofer
Tekunda, I would head the advice of others and try the Wolcotts by themselves. Unless you use an active x-over, the biamped Prodigies will not sound good with tubes on top and SS on the bottom. In theory, the combo should work. In reality, however...
