Thuan98, I am sure the CAD805C is a wonderful amplifier. The Fila looking like a toy? That I'm not so sure about, a small jewel perhaps:) As Daniel Webster said about Dartmouth College, "it is small, but there are those that love it." Glad you lik...

He speicfically mentions PSB Stratus Gold, which will make the Cary SLI-80 not sound like the "great" integrated that it is.
Is my room big enough for the Harbeth HL5's?
OP, your room is no problem. Which will you like better? The room is not part of the answer to that - they will both function very well with your room. Are you asking something besides that? or you just wanted to know about the speaker/room interf...

A used Portal Panache (100w/8 200w/4) would be a worthy choice - though you can get it new for $1795. Unverified rumor is that Nelson Pass designed the circuit. The Ayre would be wonderful IF it had more power for the PSBs, but I think it would be...

Is there an integrated amp in the $2,000-$2,500 should avoid? Other than tube ones? I get the feeling you can hardly go wrong with an SS integrated in that price range, though they may be a clunker out there to avoid.

Yes, great integrated, but not for OPs speakers IMHO. 84db, 2.8 impedance dip in bass region and impedance swings all over the place based on 1997 Stereophile measurements, exactly what a tube amp does not want to see in a speaker.

I would think a tube amp, most any tube amp, let alone a low powered one, would be a very bad match with the OP's speakers. His speaker likely needs at least 100 watts SS to drive them. SIM Audio is proabably a good match in terms of power and dri...

Erikminer, he has PSB Stratus Golds.
EL34 vs 6CA7 vs KT77
Jim McShane sells them both, and has many buyers of both - his advice is worth seeking, as well as the fact that he matches tubes very well and sell at very competitive prices. He is especially useful on issue related to reliability since he sells...
solid state amp for merlin tsm's ?
04-22-11: Samski"after doing some research, it looks like the merlins are not for me," I would not come to that conclusion based on the fact folks recommend tubes - they sound fantastic with SS as well, but not all speakers sound great with tubes ...

The Siemens you can get from RAM Labs are the best I have heard on my Music Reference RM9SE, but purely on hearsay, it does seem there is a lot of good feedback on the Genalex KT-77 reissues. Oh, you are right, it is not only subjective but perhap...

Not that you should not trust your own ears and taste:)

Great SETs, but I would discuss with Bobby before goinf for an SET with his speakers, not that they won't sound very good, but he does seem to have the opinion that it is not an optimal choice for his speakers - one man's opinion, but a pretty goo...
Music First Audio Passive Magnetic Preamplifiers?
You think?
Leben CS600 or ARC VSi60 with Harbeth Compact 7's
I assume you have not interest in SS alternatives? I'm a tube guy, but it seems Harbeth is a brand that does quite well with SS and there are alto of high quality options.
