Adding Placette for finer volume adjustment?
I did the very same thing to attenuate the gain on my CAT SL1 - the Placette must be very transparent as I could not easily discern its presence in the chain, but it did solve the problem of too much gain and too large of a jump between steps - I ...

Am I in the minority?
Are these great sounding Computer/DAC systems connected via USB? Is that the only way? And, is it true that USB remains a compromised audio transfer of data to a DAC?
Direct coupled tube preamp?
Oh, yeah, forget about those controls on the amp, I have set them right, but wasn't sure what the purpose was, not I have a better idea - thank you for you input (no pun intended).
Direct coupled tube preamp?
I use the Atma pre with an Atma amp - are my speakers safe from DC:)?
Direct coupled tube preamp?
What are the advantages or disadvantages of both approaches? I have an Atma pre but did not really think about what being direct coupled meant and why it was a good thing, versus the more conventional approach.
Anyone have a Music First Preamp ?
Not that you want to get paranoid about this stuff, the MF is, I am sure wonderful TVC, though I doubt it is any better than the BENT version in TVC or AVC formats, they were and they remain SOTA passives, but if you have <200 ohm sources and 1...
Gallo 3.5 vs Merlin VSM-MXe
Nice chart.
Anyone have a Music First Preamp ?
If you can afford the Music First, you can afford to try the <$500 Lightspeed Attenuator - might be interesting if you want to be amazed. When you don't have impedance issues to worry about, it clearly bettered the TVC (S&B) passives I have...
Gallo 3.5 vs Merlin VSM-MXe
Mapman, VSMs might not be everyone's cup of tea, but well worth tasting if only to know. But alas there are other tasty offerings also worth listening to - that is the fun of it. Though, I have owned MX then MXe for 9 years and I've not heard a sp...
Gallo 3.5 vs Merlin VSM-MXe
"No losers here IMHO" - and mine too.
Shindo pre + buget amp or Leben amp + budget pre
You think 15 watts will be enough for the Supre 8s?
Best tube integrated with Merlin TSM-MMI?
I think 38 watts versus 20 watts is quite a bit of difference, same as 100 watts versus 200 watts - 3db louder - and at the lower limits of what the Merlins need, just might make all the difference in the world. I would ask Bobby, but I think 20 w...
Best tube integrated with Merlin TSM-MMI?
I had my eye on those Due Ventis today, but thought it just not be enough juice to drive the VSMs, let alone the TSMs, but on paper they do sound like something I would have liked to have tried - like the Almaro 318s[?] = again, not enough power m...
Best tube integrated with Merlin TSM-MMI?
Never heard the Prima Lunas, but I imagine Bobby would suggest the EL34s versions rather than the KT88 version if you choose to take that direction. And if you considering the Prima Lunas, it also suggests the possibility of Cayins as well - they ...
