ARC CD3 MKII
I have now upgraded to the CDMKII and the improvements over the MKI are just as stated by Zargon at the start of this thread.

It is my impression that Richard was slow in coming out with a 5/5A because he did not see an easy, cost-effective way to improve upon the 3A (he does not beleive you can just create a bigger box, add more drivers (bad in prinicple), charge more, ...

I think the design is a very smart choice on the part of Vandersteen. It provides a two-box solution at the 6-7K price point for those who can't quite handle the 5/5A pricing. And WAF is nothing to sneeze at - it is a consideration for many (when ...
Pass Aleph: which one to get?
What is the sensitivity of your speakers? What is the output impedance of your preamp? Are you using tubes?

The Best Audio Dealer
John Rutan of Audio Connection. A true artist in mixing and macthing components. Has had many opportunities to sell me equipment on an upgrade path, but he has steared me away from many of these so called "upgrades" feeling they would offer no rea...
What is the standard for judging a systems sound?
It seems to me that the recording itself sets the absolute limit by which we can evaluate the reproduction capability of our equipment. As has been said before, our equipment cannot transcend the recording itself, reaching beyond to a "more true" ...
What is the standard for judging a systems sound?
This is a fascinating thread. It makes me wonder how equipment reviewers are able to describe the sound of any particular piece of euipment and what good, better, best means in the reviewing context.
Subwoofer match for Vandersteen 3A sigs?
Go to www.audioperfectionist.com. You'll find a free issue (#2) dealing with adding a susbwoofer - specifically to the 3A. Hardesty seems tothink there are a lot of reason to add a subwoofer. I might do so myself, as I too am debating the addition.
vandersteen 3a signature or thiel 2.4 or 2.3
Given your choice of music, it would seem the Vandersteens would be a better fit. But as noted above, you are choosing between two excellent, highly-evolved systems (developed over time by both designers)that a music lover would enjoy having. Neit...
Full range or sub/sat ?
I agree with Ritteri on two counts,if I understand him correctly. 1. You need a full range speaker to properly implement a pair of subwoofers and 2. the most perceived improvment in sound from adding powered subwoofers comes in the midrange and hi...
ARC CD3 MKII
Sounds like a worthy upgrade (I have the CD3 MKI w/ Convergent Pre/Amp and Vandersteen speakers). What other CDPs did you consider before buying your ARC? I have never heard or had a chance to compare the Aero Capitole 24/192, Wadia 861, Ayre D1x,...
