Harbeth - Audio Research? I hear you regarding massed strings. I heard a very expensive setup with vinyl and the highs were just shrill to my ears. Thank god it was vinyl.
$ 2500 ....Stay with Vandersteens ??...what else ? It seems trite, but "enjoying the music" is so important. I know you do Adam18, and you will continue to as you "upgrade" in the coming years, just keep your eye on the target, enjoying the music. Stick with Vandersteen, it will always bring you t...
$ 2500 ....Stay with Vandersteens ??...what else ? Sonofjim, no question you are right about the primacy of "enjoying the music"; god knows there of plenty of folks with expensive gear that don't, either because their systems are not put together right, or they're to anxious about the equipment to...
How to get the most out of Jadis DA50S? The 3rd integrated I would consider would be the VAC Avatar.
VAC Avatar SE vs. Ars Sonum w Merlin MMs? I too am interested in this comparison and with Jadis integrateds as well.
How to get the most out of Jadis DA50S? For those that have had a chance to hear the 30 and 50, what difference do you find? The fact that the 30 accepts EL34s and KT88s seems to be a bid selling point to me. The 50 seems to weigh quite a bit more, I assume bigger trannies - how does th...
Harbeth - Audio Research? I do think the HL5 is a wonderful, easy-to-listen to speaker, but I'm very suprised to hear you had listener fatigue with the Vandersteen, not a typical reaction IMHO, but that's what you heard, so can't argue with that.
Passlabs XA .5 vs Ayre MXR I suspect that both amps would be electrically compatible with any speakers assuming enough power, by match in this case I mean that Richard likes the way the Ayre makes his speakers sound; you could be pretty sure that the Ayre is a pretty good m...
Harbeth - Audio Research? The Harbeth is more "natural" and "musical" and will be enjoyable on a wider range of recrodings. You don't find many Harbeth owners unhappy with their speakers. I would love to have a room big enough for the M40s, but the HL5s are proabably perfe...
Passlabs XA .5 vs Ayre MXR Speaker match is critical, obviously Richard likes the Ayre for his speakers as he showed with them a few times, including RMAF last month. No doubt these are the two SS designers at the top of my list (and the Symphonic Line guy in Germany, and R...
Passlabs XA .5 vs Ayre MXR I think the .5 is a "major" improvement if you have speakers with unsmooth impedance curves with dips below 4ohms - the .5 is better able to handle that, with a speaker that is "tube" friendly I can't imagine much if any difference as they don't n...
$ 2500 ....Stay with Vandersteens ??...what else ? I know 5A owners are likely to disagree, but I thought the old 3As with the two subs were not far behind the 5As of that time, the new 3As should be even better. John Rutan knows this gear a lot better than me, but I wager that if ergonomics is no...
Supernait - Are my ears kidding me? The NAIM has a lot of gain so a typical digital source proabably can drive it to full volume pretty fast. With all the preamps I have owned (CAT, ARC, Joule, Lamm, Dodd) I could not turn any of them past 10:00 on the dial - gain + sensitive amps. ...
$ 2500 ....Stay with Vandersteens ??...what else ? Very true, and on a related not the move from 1 to 2 is significantly bigger than 2 to 3, but worth it nonetheless, but that makes sense, there does come a point of diminishing returns, but as Samhar says, the midrange driver found in the 2 and up...
Supernait - Are my ears kidding me? Not sure it matters too much where your volume control is as ong as yu get enough control to get the volume you want. I wonder if the Super Nait is optimized for the voltage of the Naim CD players. |
