Interesting analog experience
You might have fooled them into thinking your analogue was quiet and sounding very good. No doubt this is the definition of your digital front end.But I would hazard a guess that when you actually switched to vinyl and played it for real the diffe...
Upgrade from VPI HW-19 Mark IV turntable
I concur - keep the MK IV and upgrade the arm, then get an SDS on there and you will have a rig you can hold on to for life.
McCormack , Aragon or Forte
I use a McCormack on my Apogee Duetta Sig's, but it is the DNA500, with tons of SS current. I doubt that the DNA .5 would be sufficient to run your Centaur's. You should look at a DNA 1 rev A, or a DNA 125 at least. But probably a 225 would even b...
Triode Wire Labs 10 power cord upgraded vs 10+
I had original 8's and sent them back for the upgrade. Yes, there is a sonic improvement in transparency and extension in both directions. The sound got tighter and kept that smoothness that makes these cords special. You will have to burn it in a...
At What Age Does An Audiophile Buy His Last Amp?
Probably 2 weeks before he kicks the bucket after exclaiming "That's it! I've found it! I finally have perfect sound forever!"
Seeking Ten Years After song
I always found the studio albums too dry sounding and lacking in the energy that the band has on the live album. Man they put on an energetic show.
What's under your sub?
Try taking your downfiring sub and turning it upside down. Place a wooden board on the upturned feet and put something heavy on top to hold it in place. Now adjust your sub volume appropriately (you will likely have to turn it up a bit).Should be ...
True Sound Works Apogee Diva Ultimate - Any Good?
Original Apogees tended to lean a bit to the warm side of neutral, but they were fast, quick, & dynamic and have incredible imaging and transparency when set up properly in a room. The new revamped Apogees are quicker still and more transparen...
What Does Belden Sound Like
Jon Risch, over at the Cable forum on Audio Asylum, has a long standing recipe using Belden 89259/89248 twisted pair. The 89259 cable is pretty decent itself - just add RCA's. But the twisted pair is worth the extra effort and definitely takes it ...
McCormack DNA-0.5 Protection Circuit problem?
Did you check the fuse in the IEC receptical, where the power cord plugs in?
has anyone else tried Lloyd Walkers latest tweak
Instead of paying $395 to Walker Audio I found a clear rounded quartz crystal and glued it to the front of my cartridge with a tiny dab of super glue. Of course I re-balanced the arm to account for the added mass. I've been playing records this wa...
Interesting vintage find
The Apogee and Krell combo is still a world class combo today, as long as the speakers haven;t developed the dreaded Apogee buzz (from deteriorating felt on the ribbons). Nothing wrong with a SOTA turntable, SME arm or VDH cartridge. If these are ...
has anyone else tried Lloyd Walkers latest tweak
Yes, quartz crystals (of any color) do have piezo properties, as do a few other crystals to differing degrees. They have been used successfully in some power cords and some small black boxes when placed strategically in a system. So I'm not surpris...
Super Tweeters
Here's is a link to an inexpensive product, from China I believe - Taket. Certainly cheap enough to try it out and see if it works for you before you spend big $.http://www.taket.jp/batpure/batpure.html
Magico S5 vs Revel Salon 2
The Revel's are a great speaker, but I can see how you might be tempted to try a Magico. However, their essential design is very similar. How different is it really going to sound to you? Subtelties ...Why don;t you try something completely differ...
