Guitar Hero or Rock Band: Admit You Play? Got Guitar Hero III for the kids for Christmas, although the wife says I really got it for myself. Anyway, got through "easy" fairly quickly, then passed muster on Medium. Got through the 1st bunch of songs on Hard and pretty much have turned the ...
Audioprism Mantissa tube preamp buzz Is there a buzz coming from the outboard power supply? Perhaps there's a grounding issue there if it is (i.e. transformer hum).Does it sound like a buzz or a hummmmm? In other words, did you perhaps disconnect a wire from the RCA's while you were ...
What time do you wear? That's one of the reasons I bought my Zenith El Primero. The other is it is/was probably the most accurate Swiss Chronometer. The third is it looks very, very nice - understated and classic.Enjoy,Bob
Time between playing the same LP Considering it takes about 20-30 minutes for my newly cleaned LP's to dry in the open air I can't see how heat from the stylus could possibly take an hour to dissipate. Forget about 24 hours. Hell, the heatsinks on my amp feel cool after about 10-...
Stand out phono stages I know it was mentioned before, but if you don't use a LOMC then a Hagerman Trumpet makes an awesome stage. Great dynamics, musical richness and the ability to pull all sorts of things out of the grooves that I didn't know were there before.Enjoy,Bob
Get a better turntable or better phono preamp? Unanimous. No question about it - get a better phono stage.
Whats on your turntable tonight? Just ran through Jim Hall's "Concierto" LP. It sounded so good this morning I just picked up the stylus and listened to the side all over again :-)Enjoy,Bob
VPI Super Platter Nope. Didn't work. This little ball is really pressed in tight, or perhaps machined out of the whole bar of steel and not a separate ball at all. It is not going to turn or loosen, not now, not ever.I guess I've got what I've got.Again, anyone hot...
VPI Super Platter I received an e-mailed suggestion that I'll have to give a try (thanks Markd51). Basically he suggests I dry off the shaft and ball, then take a hard dry rubber mat and try to turn the pressed in ball so the wear spot is not on the pivot point. Ju...
VPI Super Platter Well Mike replied. The full test of his message is as follows:"I don't know why anyone would want to change the ball other than to replace it when worn but that's what makes this business so much fun. The ball is pressed in place on your table, it...
VPI Super Platter I got a strong magnet and took a closer look at my MK III bearing. It loooks like the little ball at the bottom does not rotate at all. There is a little wear mark on the point and it doesn't move at all.I've posted a question to Mike at VPI and w...
VPI Super Platter Thanks guys. Now to locate someone with a "very strong magnet". The only ones I have around here are holding pictures and report cards to the 'fridge - and they fall off all the time.I'll try thinning out the oil/grease under the ball also. I'm su...
VPI Super Platter I looked at the bottom of my MK III bearing and the ball looks pressed into the metal. No periphery ring holding it in and no way (that I can see) of prying it out without damaging something. Is there a trick to getting it out? Also, the original s...
Isolation devices and CDPs I've tried quite a few different kinds of "footer" devices under my transport and the best that works for me are the roller ball style. Pick one of the many types and try it out. Enjoy,Bob
VPI Belts Black vs Clear Before you buy any new belt, have you tried boiling the old one for about 30-60 seconds, drying then re-talc'ing? VPI recommends doing this annually to the clear belts.Enjoy,Bob |
