Recommendations for MM Phono ~ Tube or Solid State
@lalitk I also heard an Allnic phono stage w/ separate regulated psu in my system and it gave less than my more modest dual mono Croft. You might check Abbas Phono stages (I recently ordered a second; dual mono w/ inbuilt MC transformer). A number...
Why tube rectification?
if you end up taking tube rectification, you may find that rolling tubes offers a very clearly different character and weight of presentation. The manufacturer installed NOS AZ4 tube in my 4w +4w SET from Japan sounds fine, yet a contemporary prod...
FirstWatt SIT-3 or Pass Labs XA25 for Avalon Indras?
In addition to suggestions above, if you still have interest in Pass design, look up reviews of the SIT 4, particularly a video of Steve Guttenberg (SG), a stereo unit, due for release in mono block --twice the power. SG suggests "notably more pow...
CEC Belt Drive CD Transports vs Jay's Audio CD Transports
@no_regrets   Like you I am dedicated to LP playback because of the level of energy and musicality delivered.   I have not heard the Jays but listened to the CEC TL5 in my system which gives a sweet analog musicality, yet I found it a little t...
Step Up Transformers….Are they Worth the Trouble?
@lalitk I concur with comments made that the most direct path, with least material and equipment, can give optimum sound closer to sensation of live music. One example worked well in my set-up: wiring tonearm cable direct to valve phono board, b...
Mainstream Phono Stages Incorporating Premium Branded PCB Parts - Do They Exist?
+ 1 pindac’s observation re: the simplicity of adding low eddy solid copper (or silver!) RCA chassis sockets and cable plugs to give notably greater clarity, openness and purity of sound. (I use ETI silver and gold in different positions in the sy...
Phono pre amp recommendations? - upgrading from ICON AUDIO PS1 MK II
A web search for “ Abbas Audio RIAA Tube Preamplifier EF86/EL84 “ will explain a very particular hand made build philosophy that may fit your bill:   I compared this device last week to a friend’s Luxman RIAA (7000 GBP !) . I heard notably great...
Finally after 7 years of search... Full Range: Voxativ.
I heard Cube Audio Nenuphar on the end of my source, pre, SET, and SC's at a dealer, and was unmoved relative to the horns (Loth X Troubadour) I have enjoyed for more than ten years.
Finally after 7 years of search... Full Range: Voxativ.
superelmar -- good to read your findings. +1 for KEF subwoofer, if not KC92 mentioned above, for larger spaces, I found KC62 perfect match for my full range single driver horns in a smaller room. Enjoy
Good small/single outlet power conditioner for preamp.
@jriggy  I had the same issue when introducing one of my valve FM tuners to my system. A different tuner works perfectly. I trialled the 156 and it didn't work in my system, altering piano sound too greatly. I have since enjoyed a UK built "AC-2K...
Garrard 301 - Project
@lalitk  +1 for Woodsong renovation work (I have a TD124). VG results (for TD124) with "Governor" PSU made by Deco Audio in UK for rational cost: lower noise floor, greater impact. I have VG results after milling -- using pillar drill-- a solid...
Passive preamps - differences between technologies
I gave up after ten years use a wonderful sounding dual mono valve preamp in favour of the complete quiet and transparency of detail of an Audion Select TVC line level pre amplifier (copper transformer windings w/ silver internal hook up wires) —s...
Tube sound is not about warmth. It's about correct presentation.
Correct presentation ? Presentation of music that touches your spirit ? Of course, this would be worked out in individual systems of particular design, physical materials used, and component synergy -- inside eqpt. as well as unit to unit-- as sug...
Resolving CD Transports Crowd Sourcing
@wharfy - fwiw, I heard the least cost CEC in my system and it made involving sweet music but not quite enough air, space and detail for me to keep. The more expensive models would probably be worth a listen.
Resolving CD Transports Crowd Sourcing
+1 TEAC recommendation. I believe either Sparkler Audio or 47 Labs use TEAC drives in their machines. After reading good reports (here) I use a small form factor TEAC PD H600. It was compared to an Ayon valve player by other users —which I had own...
