Jazz is not Blues and Blues is not Jazz.......
Going back to the dawn of recorded jazz and blues in the 20’s there was tremendous cross-fertilization between the genres. They are just sides of a coin, so to speak. If one delves into the free jazz genre, the influence of blues is great.  Check ...
Woofer pumping possibly due to tube amp when playing vinyl
I understand that you’ve tried two amps, but problem is an incompatibility between your chosen speakers and your chosen amps.  Review the specifications of your components and make sure that the numbers work in theory. If you value your amps more,...
USB sucks
USB sucks. Why waste energy harboring a strong opinion, if it is wrong?
Should a reference speaker be neutral, or just great sounding?
For a great recording, you want a neutral speaker. Any speaker can sound good, given a recording with complementary flaws. But to have the highest percentage of good listening experiences with audiophile recordings requires a neutral speaker.
I think some cables are just a little too expensive.
I use MIT, and I’m very happy with networked cables.  Would love to try equivalently priced Transparent cables.  Unlike MIT, they are optimized at the factory to work with specific components.  If the components change, the cables can be sent back...
Seeking advice on Speakers that create an intimate 2 channel listening experience
I forgot to mention, Imaging is an audiophile trick, has nothing to do with real music.
Seeking advice on Speakers that create an intimate 2 channel listening experience
Horning Eufrodite. Hear them in Manhattan.
What are the sexiest components ever made?
JRDG, CH Precision.  Speakers and turntables are fundamentally ugly.
Vinyl / High qual analog tape / High-res digital -- One of these is not like the other
I own close to 15,000 records, and I currently use three turntables.  I also have an SACD player and a music server.  If I was a record producer, and I wanted the best sound, and money was absolutely no object, I would record in digital.  That’s h...
Jazz for aficionados (removed)
I don’t like that thread. There are much better ways to learn about good jazz. Aging audiophiles don’t necessarily have the best taste in music.
Should people who can't solder, build or test their speakers be considered audiophiles?
“A true audiophile...”Give me a break. The post is the saddest mix of envy and snobbery I have yet seen on this forum.  Congratulations, as that bar has never been higher.
Vinyl / High qual analog tape / High-res digital -- One of these is not like the other
Hi G, Regarding Rumours in one month, I might pull out the SACD if I wanted to relax and not have to hassle with the vinyl.  But I would probably reach for the vinyl, thinking there would be more musical engagement.Hi M, Regarding my vinly pressin...
Vinyl / High qual analog tape / High-res digital -- One of these is not like the other
I just compared Fleetwood Mac Rumours on audiophile vinyl (Pallas pressing) versus SACD.  I used an EMM SACD player and ARC Reference level preamplification.  The SACD had better and clearer highs (guitar fills mostly).  The vinyl had a denser and...
Magico M9 The new 'norm' in speakers
Just like practically anyone old enough to be able to afford these speakers, my audiogram no longer merits their purchase. Oh, the irony.
Why don’t tube amps sound like tubes anymore?
Great-sounding amps should sound more alike than different. It’s music, not ice cream.  Modern tube amps require no more maintenance than solid state. A great sounding tube amp will tend to be more affordable than a solid state amp of comparable q...
