Sony XA9000ES mods?
Dgarretson, when you stated "a (XA)9000ES modded by Ref Audio Mods or VSE should get very close to the others" -- what 'others' are you speaking of? Thanks.
I just don't get PC Audio
Deshapiro, please excuse my lack of knowledge but I'm sure I am not alone and others will be interested as well. I am interested to know what you are playing on your system-what sources are you playing? Where does the music come from and at what r...
I just don't get PC Audio
Arbuckle, I understand and agree with you. 99 out of 100,at least, of our Audiogon associates simply have no exposure to the level of sound you may obtain from your Esoteric. There are different worlds right here on earth.Guys with Corvettes will n...
How much longer will CDs be made?
Tvad, Thanks for the update.I did not know that Blu Ray players actually played a Hi-Res format for AUDIO. If you are right-that the Blu Ray provides Hi Res audio-like full 24/96 or 24/192- it puts a whole new angle on things for me. I will check ...
How much longer will CDs be made?
Tiger, you have a very good point-but!Sony could actually enhance Blu-Ray sales(ok, not by much) by making it a state of the art Hi Res 2 channel audio player as well as the video star it is. The additional cost would be minimal and it would make ...
How much longer will CDs be made?
Sidssp,You comment about a good DAC sounds sensible to me.Perhaps it can be driven by my old Toshiba SD9200 in which case the Sony can be sold to contribute to the DAC.What do I need to spend on a DAC to surpass the CD sound from the Sony?

Cadnliz,I notice you use a Lexicon RT-10.How has it been for you?

Meridian G08 versus Wadia 581se
Seeking alternatives to the Wadia due to price. Have heard the 581 & found it excellent; however would have to go the the improved(in reliabilty as much as sound) 581SE at $10,000.Too much for a dying format. For that money should get all 4 dyi...
Why do my transformers hum sometimes?
A brief addition. The Equitech website may be of help as it offers quite an overview of power problems. If not you might give them a call. I found an Equitech 2Q solved my hum problems. Their Balanced transformers are quite different than regular ...
Recording quality effect on listening pleasure ...
JP,I'm with you. I probably have been spoiled by decent systems and a Goldmund turntable and having collected recordings since the late 60's- but it's now a fact that I will no longer listen to a crappy sounding recording, no matter the quality of...
Power conditioner or not?
Lamcam, back to the point. I think you should experiment. My experience has proven to me that no single company has all the goods on power conditioning-and I doubt Naim does either. I have found some conditioners can be very complementary. Good luck.
Upgrade from Sony XA9000ES
Bigtee, I presently have the XA900ES for CD and SACD and a Lexicon RT 20 in the system for CD and DVD-A and movies.I use balanced power for all, separate for the front end and the amp, as well as good isolation & conditioning for each digital ...

Power conditioner or not?
Technically power conditioners are to provide 'pure' power.I cannot understand how "the room itself" can have an impact.
