technics SP-25 armboard
Technics used the motor unit model number in identifying their dedicated plinths. From what I found on Vinyl Engine, there are four plinths for the SP-10 Mk2 --SH-10B, SH-10B3, SH-10B5, and SH-10B7. They differ in year of manufacturer, constructio...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Lew, re: harmonics. My understanding is that harmonic tones are multiples ABOVE the fundamental tone, not below it. Thus your example of a pure tone 1K Hz would not have a harmonic at 500 Hz.Am I wrong? Can someone clarify this point?
Replacement amp for NAD 3020a?
Simon, I use a 3020A to drive Signet speakers in my video system. More than once I've been caught up by the degree of musicality it produces from appropriate video content. I would hesitate to replace it with anything else that I could not auditio...
technics SP-25 armboard
Nandric, did you meant SP-15? I believe that and the SP-25 require the same cut out, thus fit into the same plinth. The SP-10 and SP-10 Mk 2 and Mk 3 have a different pattern, thus fit into a different plinth. For the OP, it should not be difficult...
Headshell Washers : Nylon or Stainless Steel?
Sksos 1, I agree your method would minimize the chance for alignment changes. So I would hope anyone else attempting to compare various mounting hardware would follow your example . . . then report back here. ;-)
Headshell Washers : Nylon or Stainless Steel?
This type of comparison can be tricky. Changing mounting hardware means the alignment may not be precisely the same. And that could overwhelm any sonic differences in hardware materials.
magnestand owners
Don, have you ever seen or heard PG's modified Maggies?Calling him a "back woods" wood butcher is a bit offensive. He does live in a small community in PA, not NYC, but I fail to see what difference that makes (if anything, I'd say it works in his...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Montepilot, here is a consideration about detail:You described Max Roach, "when he walked through the front door wearing his black fedora and trench coat carrying his bass". That is interesting since Roach was a drummer. Now I suppose he could have...
Specs on PSE Studio Mark IV
I'm surprised but pleased to read of this interest in PSE. They didn't seem to be very well known when they were current products. Back in the '70s I owned the current version of Vandersteen 2s and had the chance to visit Bill Low's (Audioquest) h...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Hi Lew, et. al.Like you, my interest in MM/MI cartridges predated Raul's initiation of this thread. Perhaps 20-25 years ago, before most LP production succumbed to the onslaught of the CD, I read about an interesting situation. Sax, Grundman, and ...
Tracking force and Unipivot tonearms
Another "yes" for the Fozgometer, if you don't have access to an O-scope. I've never understood folks who claim they can adjust azimuth visually, they must have far better eyesight than I do! Even when aided by a small magnifier. It is chancy to r...
Turntable speed accuracy
Lew and others with "the big spindle" issue. Could you stack enough metal washers on the spindle to leave only the top exposed, then use that to center the Timeline? If the top of your respective spindle is slightly rounded this might work. If you...
Turntable Placement
Yesfan,Move your TT closer to your amps? Is that what you meant to say? More traditionally the separation questions relate to TT distance from the preamp/phono stage and amp distance from the speakers.Anyway, a little research on identifying reson...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Hi Mike, can you explain how AS is built into an arm to vary as the cartridge moves across the record? The most common mechanism I'm familiar with is the string and weight, attached to pull the arm counter to the skating force. I don't remember mu...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Hey guys, I can't add anything to the why? or how? of AS, only a further question.I recall reading some years ago about Thorens' research on skating force and their finding that correct AS would actually change as the arm/cartridge moves across th...
