Thales Simplicity tonearm review in Stereophile.
I can't understand how he couldn't hear the absence of inner groove distortion unless the arm was generally tracking so poorly as a result of the bearing map-adjustment that it was just poor right across the LP surface. I know that Michael Fremer ...
My new Soundsmith Straingauge cartridge
My experience has been that some LPs that sounded terrible with my previous Airy 3 sound fantastic with the SG and vice versa. Most LPs sound fantastic, especially mono LPs
Stand out phono stages
I don't own one as I have a Strain Gauge, but by far the best phono stage I've heard by a big margin is the fairly recent RCM Theriaa. Little known outside Europe but amazingly good
My new Soundsmith Straingauge cartridge
I think that one of the problems with Strain Gauge sales, like with active speaker sales, is that us audiophiles get attached to our gear and it means changing an expensive phono stage or getting rid of a power amp in the case of Active speakers. ...

Oh Dear.... :)
My new Soundsmith Straingauge cartridge
Hmmm... I was hoping that you would say that it made no difference:)

I'm sure that what Michael Fremer heard was accurate, however as the tonearm was damaged so what he heard bears little relationship to a correctly functioning Thales tonearm/turntable.
My new Soundsmith Straingauge cartridge
Hi Spiritofmusic, I've just read through this sometimes bad tempered thread with interest as I've had a SS Strain Gauge cart for almost 2 years now, recently upgraded to the latest Mk 4 spec. I agree with your impressions of the SG, all I would ad...

Hiho why do you say that? Just install the arm following Thales' instructions, align the cartridge in the easy to use alignment tool and don't tamper with the factory settings. It's quite simple. If you can manage those simple steps you have an ar...

Yes, the French review photo has the headshell mounted back to front! Maybe it's better for playing records backwards and deciphering hidden lyrics?

I've heard the arm, own the arm and the TTT-C. Fremer was understandably annoyed that he totalled his Lyra, but really, if you turn the mounting tool upside down without the cartridge being secured by screws you'd have to be living on the space st...
Linear tracking tonearms.....
I've got a Thales Simplicity, a parallel tracker not a linear tracker. It tracks brilliantly, much better than my Kuzma Stogi Refence, itself no mean tracker, with fantastic dynamics, great soundstage and a very low noise floor. No inner groove di...
HRS Isolation damping plates
I use both the damping plates and the pucks and the light turntable weight. The better the resolution of your equipment the more difference you will discover. I'm pretty sceptical about these sorts of things but the differences are clear: blacker ...
Wish List For Vinyl Pressings
Cake - Fashion Nugget. Great album, nice and dynamic on CD, would be awesome on vinyl
Preamps waste of money?
I've just been through this process myself. I'm a great fan of TVC passives as they really provide a detailed uncoloured sound for a relatively small amount of money. I've used a SAC TVC, briefly used a Music First Mk II and recently a StereoKnigh...
