Any High End Tube Preamps with *gasp tone controls?
As an older gentleman, I also find my hearing is changing and that I need a tone control, I have therefore incorporated a Schiit Lokuis 6 level tone control into my system. It is fully balanced in & out (RCA's are also there for my tube amps w...

I usually play with the resonator installed, but I agree it's heavy. I play sitting down with the banjo in my lap so it's not so bad. I also use finger picks with the banjo but don't use a pick at all with the guitar, go figure.
I'm thinking about a low watt tube amplifier?
I really appreciate everyone's input, lots of food for thought. After researching some of the excellent comments, I may come up with some different options on which way to ultimately go. I'm sure I will make a few changes once I have had a chance ...
I'm thinking about a low watt tube amplifier?
I appreciate the positive input, I have a very long list of more efficient speakers, which I will continue to try and audition when the opportunity comes up, I am hoping to check out a few shows and sample a few there.  The small amp available at...
I'm thinking about a low watt tube amplifier?
My apologies to everyone the 97 db sensitivity that I noted initially should have been 87 db.
I'm thinking about a low watt tube amplifier?
Facten: Wilson Benesch Square 2-87db at 1 meter on axis 2.83V input-6 Ohms nominal, 4 Ohms minimum-power handling 200W peak unclipped-(no minimum given). To my ears these speakers are as detailed using the lower power tube amps.
I'm thinking about a low watt tube amplifier?
larryi: The speakers in use are Wilson Benesch Square 2, nominal impedance is around 6 ohms. I would try to avoid pushing the amp.  carslbad2: Thanks, nice to hear someone with specific low wattage amp. experience and that your friend is enjoying...

Congratulations on the retirement, it may take a bit to slow down, it took me a few months just to get my stride. Been retired for a few years now, still work sometimes but that has slowed as well. I have re-investing in my music hobby since my re...
Audio Research Gain Settings on Line Stage Amplifiers
russ69 & skucie thanks for your input, I have adjusted the tube amp output and I will try different gain settings on the Preamp to see which best suits the tube amp.
un-becoming an audiophile
I started enjoying music and getting lost in it early in life, singing in a choir, I have played music and sung my whole life, music is how the "Light Gets In" and the magic begins. Reading these comments brings a smile to my face. Its the music t...

Tube amps - what 3 things…
I have to say that I am enjoying this thread alot, and I am learning quite a bit, being a newcomer to tube amps (I have owned my first for a couple of months now), I get the feeling this rabbit hole runs deep!
Thoughts on the Gustard X26
I have a Gustard x26 Pro and find it an excellent dac for all my digital files, I find it very natural sounding which is what I care about, I currently use it with my downloaded files and JRiver to stream content in DSD (up-sampled by JRiver up to...
I am considering a luxman 3600 tube amp as my first adventure into tube amplifiers?
Some interesting options, thanks I will have a look. I think "Photon 46" makes a valid argument about compatibility and impedance problems between speakers and the tube amp. unfortunately I don't have the ability to sample with used equipment unle...

I am looking at used equipment primarily.
