Why so many Gallo 3 or 3.1 for sale on A'goN?
Good question! I heard these speakers at the HE Show in San Francisco three years ago and was impressed. I also noticed the same thing (and so did others as it was in the forum several times) about the Von Schweikert VR-4 Juniors. Never got a good...
Where to buy SACD's ?
If you have a Borders Music nearby you can sign up for their e-mail specials and get 20/25/30% off coupons. The amount depends on how desparate they are! The coupons come out every couple of weeks and are good Friday thru Sunday. You can only get ...
a question about Aurios Media Isolation Bearings
The 1.1 and 1.2 are self-centering. The 1.1 are no longer available, but Music Direct has been advertising the 1.2 Classic for $150, but the supply was "limited", whatever that means? (I'd say "buy now you fool!") Be careful when buying used, ask ...
Audio Research Ref 1 or LS25 MK2 or BAT 50
I can't comment on the BAT, but for the ARC choices if you like the sound of tubes go with the Ref 1, if you are more of a middle of the (sound) road (between tubes and solid state) go for the LS 25. But like John says, only you (and your system) ...
How to correctly use the SDS with the Scoutmaster
I think you would be better off using the motor switch. The SDS will start the motor off at full voltage then ramp down to the preselected running voltage after a few seconds. You don't need to switch the SDS off and on to get this feature. Switch...
Tickets to CES - Where can I get them?
Elusive Disc has been sending me e-mails that if you buy anything they'll give you a ticket free! (actually they may be free for folks in the audio business) I thought about doing it until I found out how much hotel rooms were and how far away you...
a great take on big$ cables
All I can say is if you agree with everything said by Mr. Russell there is no reason for you to continue visiting Audiogon. This goes against everything audiophiles strive for. I can't definitively prove he's wrong, but there are an awful large nu...
Recommendations to "Professional" Reviewers?
What I would like to see is a list of NOT Recommended components. Too many times reviewers mention they're listening to something but the review never appears. In a few cases it got out the component was a dog but there was no official "bad" revie...
Recommended cartridge weight for VPI Scoutmaster
You should check the VPI web site, I found the following in the "What's new" section. "Available for better compatibility with the light low compliance cartridges being made today are 3 gram stainless steel cartridge weights. Cost is $15.00 retail"
Troika with love but bent cantileaver HELP
Just to add one thing to Bignerd100's comment, make sure you align the cantilever on the alignment gage. Normally you use the cartridge body (because it is easier to see) but in this case you know the cantilever is not in alignment with the body.
Meditative Music for Quiet Concentration
Perhaps some ambient music such as that done by Brian Eno or a host of others whose names I can't recall.
VPI Scoutmaster Belt...Is Your's Still Going???????
Thanks Toudou, that's essentially the same gap as on my Aries.
Any XTC fans?
They've been on my A list for a long time. My favorite is English Settlement with Skylarking a close second.
VPI Scoutmaster Belt...Is Your's Still Going???????
After having an HW-19 for about 20 years I just got an Aries Extended. While I have very little time on it one thing that has baffled me is belt tensioning. The motor assembly can be positioned anywhere you want so you could have very light tensio...
Folk/Rock choices that are well recorded
Richard Thompson has a number of great sounding albums. From the rock perspective Shoot out the Lights is highly regarded. From the folk perspective (perhaps a bit of a stretch) I think Rumor and Sigh is his best album.
