Should I upgrade from my Pre1L to Rogue 66 Magnum? I'll stick with the Anthem until it's time to go to the "next level".Thanks.
room treatments? is it the room that's bright? Have you tried any vibration/isolation tweaks? Sometimes vibration problems can show as extra brightness at higher volumes.
Jolida vs. Arcam I've been wondering about the same question. I bought the Arcam Alpha 9 which has the new Ring-DAC architecture. The Arcam, used, was about $300 cheaper than the newer Jolida. The Alpha is extremely detailed, almost scary at times. It isn't at all...
Suggestions for small bookshelf speakers? Hmmm, lot's of possibilities. Looks like it's time for more research.Rbstehno-Thanks for the tip on the Totem 1's. I was originally going to buy Arro's until we bought this low dresser. Now I'm looking at monitors to go on the dresser.
Kestrals: Good intro into two-ways? Great input. The Maggies sound interesting. My reluctance to go with a two-way is that I like the big, dynamic sound I have now. What I like about the Kestral is the depth and the space around the instruments. Maybe the Maggie has both. Is the Musi...
How much to spend to beat $1200 10yr old speakers? I was in a similar situation, thinking of replacing my KEF's with Meadowlark Kestral. The Kestral was definately impressive with jazz. The instruments were very, very well defined. The KEF's threw a bigger soundstage which I like for rock. The Kes...
NOS Tubes--Are they worth it? or accurate? Saxo,It sounds like you are trying to talk yourself out of upgrading the tubes. Stick with what you have if you are happy. If you find you want a little more (as most of us do) then I highly recommend upgrading the pre-amp (small signal) tubes fir...
MF A3 speaker connectors: What were they thinking? Great tip! The locking bananas fit perfectly. This must be a well kept secret. Long live A'gon. After looking at my speakers, I found that the locking bananas fit there also. There's a big improvement in the sound now with the connectors done right...
tube preamps Save some of your budget for NOS tubes! Those Sovteks can be a bit harsh.
Backing Away from Stereophile Class A Moving to really high end audio is like moving from a Corvette to a Ferrari, a bit more performance but much harder tuning.I second the thoughts of Judit. I try to find components that offer both sweetness and detail. I better go listen to Quads n...
Kef uni-q owners help, to toe-in or not to toe-in? I agree with all of the above. Toe-in seems to help the imaging a bit but sometimes it's too intense, if that makes sense. Normally I have them straight ahead for a more relaxed sound stage. I like the speakers a lot but the sound was a bit harsh ...
Why do digital cables sound different? I'm jumping into this late but here goes.First, don't assume that people who can't hear the difference in digital cables have a bad system or bad ears. Maybe they are just fortunate that their system components match well enough that the cable isn...
Tubes & Digital - Is There A Link? Tubes seem to add "fullness" rather than warmth. They also add depth and soundstage. My pet theory is that the second harmonics help activate the location reponse of human hearing. A thin sound, such as a high-pitched beep, is often hard to locate...
Great Imaging Speakers Working against a wall? Both NHT 3.3 and PSB Strauss were designed to be placed directly against the wall. Haven't heard them so I can't say how good they are.
Advice on replacing Vandersteen 2's I second KEF Reference for the wide sweet spot and wide dispersion.I may be mistaken but 2-ways with 1st order cross-overs are known for their small sweet spot (but extremely nice imaging). |
