Is this Foolish? So, I have seem to have an answer. Select table and arm first, and then look for the cartridge that best matches. Not sure why the other way wouldn't work just as well-- all things being equal. I was leaning toward the VPI Classic or a Pro-Ject De...
Is this Foolish? My thinking is that a cart will last 3-5 years with moderate use. I would think the tt should be around the same price as the cart. But, I am more concerned about synergy than price.PMB
Best TT for the buck? One other tidbit that might be helpful: I bought a 16"*16"*2.75" cutting board (Mountainwoods brand) and attached 3 small pyramid isolation pads from Radioshack. It looks great, ands works well as an isolation platform for my tt-- all for around $...
Best TT for the buck? I was wondering if anyone else was getting the Flight of the Concords reference. Love this thread because each time I read it, I hear the little bit about "my rhymes are bottomless...." and the associated irony of the pregnant pause in my head.Hip...
Best TT for the buck? I haven't had an issue, but if you wish to avoid the Pro-Ject deck, you can look to a recommendation from someone with a little different experience. In any case, my preference on a tight budget is to avoid used. Others may have different opinions,...
Best TT for the buck? I would go with the Pro-ject Debut III. You should be able to get it delivered for around $350 from NeedleDoctor. No worries; just take it out of the box, take out 2 transport screws, put on the belt, put on the counterweight and adjust, attach th...
Best TT for the buck? For a first tt, I have been extremely pleased with my Pro-ject Debut III. The gloss black version is $359 at NeedleDoctor at the moment. You can probably get them to discount it and the rest of your order another 10%. Upgrade the stylus (not the c...
What Now? Big WOW Thanks. For some reason, I was restricted on space in my original post.Super happy with the Steelhead. I obviously know that my tt is not up to snuff. Still, I am trying to purchase one new component about every 3 months. This time, I am buying co...
Manley 300B or Manley Steelhead I ended up buying a Steelhead. It should ship out in the next day or so. I had ordered a 300B but decided I was going to have to buy a phono stage anyway, and so put the extra cash down for the Steelhead. I will post an update once I get the unit....
My TT "wish list" I think the Rega P5 meets all of your requirements.PMB
What amp are you using with your Zu Essences? FWIW, the Essence ribbon tweeter output is "aggressive" with solid state gear, but nothing that can't be accommodated/resolved through careful (small) changes in positioning. I found that toe-in so that the tweeter output intersected on the rear w...
Solid State watts to power Zu Defintions? Zu's can have a slightly aggressive high treble with solid state. Tubes fare better. Avoid "bright" mps or amps with an overly lean presentation. That said, I had good luck with a Rega Elicit before I switched to tubes.PMB
small amp Try Nuforce.PMB
What amp are you using with your Zu Essences? Phil, the Zu guru highly recommends the Quad II's, Quad II-40's, and Quad II-80's. If I recall correctly, the all-out winner is supposed to be SET using 845 tubes.I have also heard that EL-84 based amps do well.I like my Manley's, but it would be ...
Amplifiers:A Keeper for Life. Do you know of one ? I'll add mine. I just finished breaking in my Manley Neo-Classic 300B SE/PP monoblocks. LOVE them. Now if I can just afford 2 pair of Sophia Royal Princess 300B's to put in them :)Seriously, no desire to upgrade these amps. All the flexibility tha... |
