Richard Vandersteen at Audio Connection
I wish I had known about Audio Connection when I was in NYC.I also made the mistake of visiting “Sound By Singer.” I was looking to purchase the new Cambridge Audio 640P phono preamp. The staff was rude, condescending and couldn’t give me any info...
Record Stabilizer on a Suspension Table?
I've listen to a couple Rockport Sirius tables in my time and have never seen any type of record clamp. Some of the records have had slight warps and still been un-affected
Acoustat Reference Preamp.
Thanks for the input. I belive the caps were replaced a few years ago. I'll ask to listen to it the next time I visit -- he's a few hours away. The only thing I can recall seeing on it is "Acoustat Reference."
Acoustat Reference Preamp.
I don't have an amp yet-- just an integrated. Maybe I'll bring my Snells over. Was it decent in it's time? It seems very well built and has a nice phone section.
Boston Acoustics and Snell bought by D&M Holdings
It’s kind-of sad to see a Japanese company gobble-up such historical American brands.Such names as Marantz, McIntosh and Boston Acoustics were important American Audio companies. There are some pluses that have happened over the year since the McI...
Are vintage speakers really that good?
I put some decent speaker cables on the them this weekend ( Not just zip cord) and they improve more and found that they had a wider soundstage -- Not as direct and MUCH better balance from side to side. By doing this they surpassed my Snell's in ...
Are vintage speakers really that good?
I just picked up some JBL 4311 that I’m currently selling on audiogon. I have to say that I’m completely surprised at how good they sound. I’m not into vintage audio but would actually keep them if they weren’t in such decent shape – That might so...
Stands for Snell E-IIIs
Just an FYI. I have the Snell EII’s witch are similar speakers. I needed to have the Mid-Bass woofers replaced because of foam rot. I bought the speakers 15 years ago “new”. Snell not only replaced the drivers, but re-tuned both speakers (using so...
Help with NAD C320BEE brightness. Break-in???
I returned the NAD and purchased a NEW MODEL Jolida 1501 (Four months old – Silver faceplate) used on Audiogon for $500.00. This was the best choice I made for my room/system. To me the Jolida is a solid step-up in performance. Beautiful solid bas...
Help, too bright
Just a follow-up about my NAD 320BEE amp and dealing with brightness, inspired by Jsujo's post. I returned the NAD and purchased a NEW MODEL Jolida 1501 (Four months old – Silver faceplate) used on Audiogon for $500.00. Wow!!! What a difference th...
Help, too bright
I absolutely agree with you. Every manufacture has their own ideas of the perfect sound – and there’s tons of fantastic equipment on the used market at around 1/2 off. It’s soooo much fun to mix and match in order create your ultimate sound!
Help, too bright
Personally I feel that any audio or video system should have decent basic cabling to help reveal and allow your system to perform at it’s best. This also eliminates the chances of noise / interference invading your signal path.I’m looking at used ...
Help, too bright
How long have you owned the NAD C320BEE?It could be a break-in problem. I own the same integrated and have experienced the same brightness. While the C 320BEE sounds nice with piano and female vocals, If I play pop or rock music, I find that I want...
