Stand out phono stages
Wavestream Kinectics? I haven't owned or heard in my own system but was impressed with what I heard elsewhere.
Suspended vs. non suspended turntable
"The question of whether this transgresses the immaculate conception of an original designer is a matter for religion."well put!

FYI, Lloyd Walker sells his UP Water for $44 for a half gallon jug.
System Synergy Theory
Carter, best start another thread for that. interesting question.
Tracking Force
Considering that optimising your cartridge performance with adjustments of as little 1/100 of a gram can make audible improvement, I think you're way out of line and certainly not getting the intended sound quality. Get a record clamp, outer ring ...
Gallo 5LS prototype towers at the CES
I found the image focus to be too diffused, which I would think is unavoidable when the drivers are not equidistant from the listener as in any line array such as this. The frequencies that are short enough to be effected by the considerable discr...
Suspended vs. non suspended turntable
I do not consider the Walker to be a suspended design per se.
Suspended vs. non suspended turntable
For what it's worth, Pierre at Mapleshade goes so far as to recommend replacing the springs on suspended tables with his brass cones - evidently another vote for non-suspended tables.
Suspended vs. non suspended turntable
Isolation from footfalls, isolation from airborne musical feedback, isolation from motor resonances, evacuation of cartridge resonances and good sound are all interrelated but separate issues. How the designer handles all these issues is where the...
entry level TT
For that price I'm assuming you're thinking used. Think Technics SL1200, old Thorens, or newer Rega, Pro-Ject, or Music Hall. Be prepared to buy a new cartridge. Double your budget and you can think new if you want that. There's nothing any good t...
Am I getting it all?
Maplenoll has an oil trough at the cartridge end. Lloyd Walker insists that it sounds better to do it on the other end. Before putting together his own table he was the Maplenoll distributor before Bob Dilger stopped making them.
Am I getting it all?
I figured after I pressed send that was the case. I'm with ya.
Am I getting it all?
Just a little reality check; you're not even close to getting it all, so you can put your question to rest. Of course, there's always enjoying the music...
Suggest Table and cartridge for my system
As far as I can tell, the Rogue does not have a phono stage, which means you do need a phono preamp. As the Tempest is a tube unit, the input impedance is high enough that it needs no special matching with a phono stage. I would choose your phono ...
phono stage placement
ALthough shorter is better in most ways, there are also reflection and resonance issues that can factor in. This is why some people recommend 1.5m. If you can run your tonearm wires without a break from cartridge to preamp, that is best.
