Prima Luna Pre vs Modwright LS100
I have not yet listened to an Ls100. I have a PrimaLuna Evo400 Preamp and the matching power amp. Although there is certainly a smoothness to the sound, I wouldn't go anywhere near a description like "tubey".  To say it's "syrupy" seems a wild exa...
Bryston BDA-3.14?
I've had my BDA-3.14 for a couple months now and am very pleased with its performance. To my ear it is easiest listening DAC I've used. Like you would expect from a quality DAC it reveals exactly what is on the recording without coloration. I neve...
Denon DVD Players
Kira is correct - my bad. The DVD-2900 does do multi-channel SACD, I confused that with my previous Sony DVP-9000ES.RLW
Denon DVD Players
The original DVD-2800 did have aspect control but it was VERY inconvenient since it was only available from the setup menu which is not available once the disc is loading. I bet the MkII is the same way since it was basically a bug-fix of the orig...
Subwoofer connection
DOH! How stupid of me - yes, of course the tape outs would not be variable. Yeah, now I'm embarrased...Thanks, Sfar, for bringing me back to reality. Actually I have seen those Monster adapters - they include one with their subwoofer cable kits. A...
What's under your bookshelf speakers?
A very similar product to what Mijknarf suggests is a rubberized shelf/drawer liner that you can buy anywhere - Walmart for instance. Comes in a few different colors (not that you'll see it under the speakers) and in much smaller sizes than the pr...

Help with value of Pink Floyd collection
Thanks for the kind words about the web site. I'm pretty much a beginner, but I'm learning...I tend to agree that selling individual titles will net more money - I just cringe to think about the time I put into collecting them, then having them so...
Tonearm/cartridge sugestions for an Oracle Delphi?
Excuse the repeated parts of my last post - I seem to have gotten jiggy with my cut and paste fingers...Robert
Tonearm/cartridge sugestions for an Oracle Delphi?
Thank you everyone for your input. It looks like most people agree that the Grace has a slight edge over the Sumiko, and on a gut level I have to agree. I also agree that probably I should not bother with the cartridges I have because they are too...
Rookie questions - toneam and cartridge
I'm a little reluctant to buy an used cartridge since I wouldn't know a damaged or worn out one unless it was obvious.I did find a new Grado Reference Platinum for $175. I haven't purchased it yet, but I'm considering it...(I find it strange that ...
Rookie questions - toneam and cartridge
Jim - Well, that's what I meant by "a whole 'nother story...". You see, I'm kind of a minimalist kind of guy and right now I don't own a preamp. I have a CD player with a variable output directly connected to my power amp. I love the way it sounds...
Rookie questions - toneam and cartridge
Thanks everyone for the information and your suggestions. I'll certainly look into getting a better cartridge. Fortunately, I have not yet heard this unit (and been turned off by the poor cartridge), since I first must get a preamp with a phono st...
Any SACD players with variable ouputs?
Thanks for the ideas guys. The Accuphase IS more than a few dollars out of my league, but I'll look into the other ideas.RLW
