Floorstanders with a large sweetspot
Audio Note model E is almost a floorstander and when placed in the corner will throw a huge soundstage and sweetspot. Also consider Audiokinesis.

what about the Matrix speakers you were asking about? I would save the money myself. I have listened to the 802N many times and never thought they needed a sub so I imagine the 801 would be safe without.

I like the bass from my NAD 326BEE with Sound Dynamic speakers it is full and controlled and seems to go quite lowfwiw...

a ported design may have a steeper rolloff than a sealed enclosure which may have less apparent bass but a more gradual slope.
