What was your biggest priority? My pre amp and amplifier were my most expensive pieces, the logic being that it would make all my different sources (turntable, CD player, DVD, VCR, Direct TV) sound the best. However I am certain the sources are limiting the potential of my stere...
DAC for Rega Planet 2000 Natalie I was responding to Marakanetz comments above. He mentions that the good sound of the Rega comes from the very good DAC and not the transport which he feels is not as nice.BTW thank you Phild for a very thoughtful reply that really opened ...
DAC for Rega Planet 2000 I meant:I had never heard the Rega transport was not that good in fact I had been told I should buy a DAC by someone.
DAC for Rega Planet 2000 thank you everybody, these are very helpful comments and I do not think I will pursue a DAC. I had never heard the Rega transport was not that good in fact I had been told I should replace it by someone. I am usually one to buy a better piece inst...
Best tube amp for my system ---- 1k used???? If you buy a Rogue 88 used for $750 - $850 you can get it upgraded to a Magnum when you can afford it (or when you need tubes as they replace them with the upgrade). I think you will have plenty of power and they really are sweet sounding detailed...

Grado Sonata, I need help. My Grado Sonota and Rega RB300 work fine together (on a Linn LP12 table), maybe slightly heavy in the bass but not bright or harsh at all.Try talking to the dealer who sold it to you, maybe you can return it for another one.
Have I ruined my stylus? Actually Linn also had a green sandpaper (sort of) that I still use, I have also read about the matchbook in these pages before too.I have read that leaving the turntable running at the end of a record wears just like playing a record in the regul...
Where's My Bass? EleonidaI have found that tonal balance in a high end system can be a fine line to walk and one change like a tube or a wire will switch the balance the other way around to being too warm or bass heavy. Hang in there you are may be closer than you...
Are Nordost really the Rolls Royce of cables? I have Blue Heaven and even though they are very detailed and have a high sense of nuance they are not especially musical, being a little bright and thin sounding so I am selling them. There is no doubt in my mind that the higher priced Nordost li...
Planet 2000 Interconnect, please help I compared my Rega Planet 2000 with a Meridian 508/24 player and the Rega had MUCH less definition, dynamics and detail, enough so that I am thinking of selling it to move up. I know they are not in the same price league but when you think of spen...
REGA Planet vs Jupiter FYII have a Rega Planet 2000 and the Meridian 508/24 totally smoked it in my system with everything else the same, way more detailed and dynamic and more musical, though they were similar in tone. The Rega sounded blah in comparison, it was an eye...
I can't really hear a big difference I went from a Rega Planet 2000 to a Meridian 580/24 and the difference was huge. The Meridian is much more detailed and dynamic, it transformed my whole system. I do believe the cables are choking the sound on your system Dennis.Let us know how it...

Can someone recommend a few Joni Michell albums? All of the above recommendations are good ones and do not miss the little known 'Ladies of the Canyon', it is very mellow and a little jazzy, it is one of my favorites (even though I agree all the others mentioned are great too). |
