Review: Consonance CD-120 Linear CD Player You have done an excellent job of describing this piece. I have heard it myself and thought it does an excellent job. After reading your comments I realized why I enjoyed this player, it is a simpler design than most players but it is truer to the...
Musical Fidelity A3.2 v. tubed CD players Jcyle, I have not heard the A3.2 but have heard the new A5. It is a nice player but the presentation is not as relaxed as others I have heard. The a5 is very detailed and spacious but lacks warmth. I assume the a5 is similar to what you have. The ...
Black Gate Cap upgrade on Museatex Bitstream DAC Lush, what do you think of the performance if the modified dac and have you tried diferent digital cables. Phil Brady.
Philips 963 SA -transport Currently I use one connected to a dac via digital cable for sound and to the tv via video cable. Here are my issues. Sound wise it is excellent, although I think the dac is responsible for this. Video is excellent. I only have one SACD in my coll...
HELP One pair for $2k Recommendations Please Trianglezerious has the right idea about changing receiver and looking at the good value speakers in the $1k range. A good used preamp could be obtained, possibly tubed, to take some of the adcom harshness away.
McIntosh Tube or SS? Stay with the McIntosh or go with an integrated tube amp. An el34 design will highlight vocals, won't break the bank and will have plenty of power for your efficient speakers. The 1090 is an especially powerul amp ideally suited to inefficient spe...
What are your opions on monster power amp. They are similar (may be the same?) as the Marsh designs which have received several good reviews. Richard Marsh designed these. Check the archives related to Marsh. The general perception is that they are good and that the pre-amp is better than ...
Help me pick the right monitor I had these speakers hooked up to a Mac SS integrated and found the bass to be tuneful bot not powerful. I thought the midrange was excellent but the highs were too recessed. This probably was due to my amp. I would imagine the highs on yours are ...
Your Favorite Music Fron N'Awlins? Radiators for fun. Anders Osbourne for soul and Sonny Landreth for slide guitar.
Dac for Adcom System It appears your system is extremely revealing. The bel canto will warm up the sound while the benchmark will offer even more resolution. The high frequencies will be more pronounced on the benchmark.
do it yourself amp Try www.aksa.com for solid state kits or do a web search for nelson pass amp designs. I have never done myself but hear about them often in a positive light. Good luck.
older dacs Leaving a tubed dac on is ok. Can't go wrong with an Audio Mirror (new), Bel canto (used), or a scott nixon(used). Of the three mentioned I prefer the audio mirror. All three are more analog in presentation versus the sony. All of the dacs will al...
Review: TRL Audio Mirror D1 Signature DA converter Excellent review. I too had the audio mirror dac (unmodified) and found it to be exactly as you described. I think it one of the most analog sounding units I have heard. The bass is correct and deep, the midrange is solid and detailed. What I foun...
