Modest Speakers for Large Room
Probably go with a large floorstander...add a sub later...Revel F12s are impressive for the money...not a real eye popping design...but solid engineering...Paradigm studio series are generally well received...as are PSB...in fact an older pair of ...
What is the best vintage TT for new audiophile?
I would pass on the entry level Project or Rega offerings...3-400 in the used, vintage market can go a long ways...I have had good luck with quartz direct drive models...very quiet, reliable, low fuss tables...
Vinyl reissue labels to avoid?
alot of the reissue movement boils down to marketing and simply reselling what many audiophiles already own...i have original pressings of Steely Dan, Eagles, Santana, Floyd, Supertramp, Queen, etc...and for the most part have been pleased with th...
Help me choose a CL special - $200
His budget is 200...fairly unrealistic to find Vandy 1s for that price...typically 4-500 with stands...older paradigms are plentiful and reasonable...as are Athena loudspeakers which would be at or under budget....going used one is at the mercy of...
Help me choose a CL special - $200
I like the old Eosone line....the top end is a bit soft...and the warm midrange had just a hint of colour, and the bass was a tad smeared but highly musical...i have a pair of their non powered floorstanders...these are not GMA or Revel level of q...
Monitors or floor speakers for small room?
Since you already own monitors...the next logical step would be to add a sub...that being said...I recently went back to full range floorstanders and have been happy with the results...I could never achieve that big sound with monitors...even with...
Revel F12's ---- A very happy upgrade for me.
The defining characteristics of both Revel and Vandersteen would be apparent in any system...and possibly more prenounced depending on equipment...fwiw...i am a revel fan...the m20 is one of my favorites
Revel F12's ---- A very happy upgrade for me.
Two very different speakers...Vandersteen are known for their very deep soundstaging, clean bass, and open sound...Revel 12 is a much more forward sounding design, which can work better with conventional rock, etc...but the 1 series by Vandy has b...
Speaker Placement Issue/Thoughts
Just to reiterate...a majority of this is recording based...the Thiels are simply passing the information...
Ideas on speaker like Magnepan but with high WAF
For hi WAF hard to beat Sonus Faber...they look gorgeous...sound even better...
Magnepan Service HORRIBLE???
I'm confused...partial blame is directed towards Magnepan for not providing wooden crates for new products...yet the OP bought used...had them crated...and they STILL were damaged...how is that Magnepans fault....this shouldn't be a blame issue......
French Speakers?
Probably better suited to an American or Canadian voiced speaker...PSB....or even Infinity, JBL would better match your musical tastes .....
Rotel 1520 or separate phono stage?
I like the project phono box...it vastly outperformed the phono stage in my NAD preamp....
Preamp Suggestions
the NAD is a good amp...for the money...the project tube phono preamp would treat you just fine...and is within reach with your budget...however...their standard dual mono phono preamp is darn good for the money...and roughly half as the tube mode...
French Speakers?
Probably a bit lean for primarly rock/pop...they tend to favor small jazz combos, string quartets, etc...and the hyper detailed treble might be too unforgiving on less than stellar recordings...at my local hifi store...I much preferred Sonus Faber...
