New or used??? "Look for widows that are selling the husband's system."And just how in the world does one go about finding these outraged widows? Does one surreptitiously slither into a passing funeral procession, cozy up to the bereaved, rat him out and suggest...
New or used??? Hi Jhkear,I noticed that you didn't mention auditioning anything from JM Lab. IMHO that is an unfortunate omission. Used speakers from the Utopia and Electra lines are frequently available for a good price on Audiogon and it's a well established c...
Integrated tube amp with tuner? Hi Killwhat,Have you checked out "Mapleshade"? They sell some modified/reconditioned vintage tube receivers.
Has anyone heard FM Acoustics Thanks Detlof,I have friends who have sold pretty expensive gear in favor of modded Jolidas. I'm happy you mentioned Paravicinis designs because I've wanted to audition them for a while now. Also, don't let the SS crowd make light of your passion ...
Has anyone heard FM Acoustics "Compared with the real thing however, to these here ears you'll find more satisfying gear at very much less cost."Hi Detlof,Could you give us some examples? I'm just asking for you opinion because I like the way your post recognizes that some hig...
Class-D amps - a different re view "You just don't know the beauty of class D"Reminds me of something, hmm, what is it - oh yaa! I remember: "Luke, you just don't know the power of the dark side."
Totem response re: recommended tube amp for Sttaf Are we reenacting the "Prestige", which door(thread) are you behind?
Moving away from tubes. Is this a good idea? "Besides there is a Devel's Tower of a learning curve for me to climb around tubes and I'm really anxious to just sit down and listen without any anxiety (if you know what I mean)."I once felt exactly the same way and couldn't have been more wrong...
Abbingdon Music Research CD-77 impressions? Hi David,I seem to recall from earlier posts that you're in Chicago; where did you get the demo? Also, does this suggest some dissatisfaction with the Crimson?
Modified DCM TFE200's......World Reference Now If a tree falls on a school for the hearing impaired, does anyone get hurt?I have know idea what that means, it's just the thought that popped into my head while reading this thread - sorta like a Rorschach test - first thing, you know.
Why so expensive?? "Unfortunately I have yet to find any woman who doesn't find an interest in Audio, plain weird."I have yet to find a woman who doesn't find a man, who demonstrates his wealth of disposable income by spending a quarter mil on a stereo, more interes...
Conrad Johnson Premier 12, how powerful? Speed is relative and mostly a function of speaker/amp synergy. Coincidentally, I just got off the phone with Ed from cj and one of the subjects we touched upon was the speed improvement realized by using Teflon capacitors. So, given that you thou...
Conrad Johnson Premier 12, how powerful? I'm seconding Tantra's post. The 87db sensitivity will not present a problem. I'm using the cj Premier 11a (70 watts) with 91db speakers. However, neither amp is the ideal choice for a speaker with a challenging impedance curve.
Thinking of trying tubes... Hi Roland,Just thought I'd throw in with Tiger and Nb_dude. You can usually find one of the cj premiers for a good price on audiogon.
Can speaker cables be too thick? Slv,Thanks for explaining things in such a way that even I could make some sense of it. Given the reluctance of cable manufactures to publish electrical parameters, would it be difficult for someone else (retailers, reviewers, etc.) to independent... |
