I’m afraid my Audio Aero Capitole mk2 has died I used mine as a CDP and DAC. Assuming you have a streamer, or want to try streaming, the AA may still work when used as a DAC. I regret selling mine, as it sounded great, despite it's age.
300B or 2a3 SET Class A for Heretic Model A? @rooze I love the sound of my McIntosh MC30's, but always have an eye out for reputable high quality 845 amps/integrateds to have as an alternate that I can swap with the Mac's for a different flavor.
Looking at a Mcintosh 275vi with upgraded gold lion tubes I believe the McIntosh MC275 MKV used Shuguang Penta KT88's... not JJ's. I don't think the Gold Lion's are bad sounding in the MC275's I just preferred the crispness of the Shuguang Penta's (which I believe are no longer available). I would not ...
300B or 2a3 SET Class A for Heretic Model A? @alexberger my room is not small @ 14' x 26' x 7.5' tall with a 6' wide opening that leads to an adjacent room. My Altec's use Werner Jagusch crossovers, so it's possible they are contributing to inefficiency or negatively impacting the impedanc...
Final Decision On An Integrated Amp I don't believe Jadis has a US service center... so any repairs may require shipping them back to France. Also the "Black" version of the Jadis Orchestra uses cheaper third party transformers, unlike the better Jadis amps using transformers built...
Looking at a Mcintosh 275vi with upgraded gold lion tubes I'm a big fan of Gold Lion KT88's, preferring them over others in most KT88 amps that I've owned, with the only exception a McIntosh MC275 MKV... for whatever reason I preferred the stock McIntosh KT88's over the Gold Lions, which surprised me at ...
300B or 2a3 SET Class A for Heretic Model A? @alexberger I tried Coincident Frankenstein's with Altec Model 19's, thinking that the Altec's 99 dB efficiency would pair nicely, but unfortunately, the Frank's made the 19's sound under powered. It's possible that the 19's impedance curve is d...
Sound Anchor Stands They have standard sizes for some speakers (like Harbeth and some others), or you can order custom speaker stands, amp stands and racks. I've owned at least two pairs over the years that I can remember... one custom, one for Harbeth's. Good prod...
Verity Audio speaker manufacturer silent... I wonder if branching out into high end DAC's, amps and preamps contributed to their demise. I remember reading Stereophile reviews when they came out with electronics... they weren't well received if I recall correctly... I'm pretty sure John At...
Spendor D7.2 Pairing - First Watt F8 Volti and Devore are safe bets if you are keeping your First Watt amp. You can add Audio Note and Klipsch into the mix if you need more options.
Gary Fischer Horn Speakers?? You will need a reasonably large room for A7 or A5 clones. You should also consider horn speakers from Klipsch, Tannoy, Fyne, Volti and JBL, as all of them will likely have better resale value than Gary Fischer Altec clones.
Looking for 50-100 watts of Tube Power (give or take) for my JBL 4349s @jerryrocks agree that combo is classic.
Looking for 50-100 watts of Tube Power (give or take) for my JBL 4349s @decooney Couldn't agree more with running 6SN7 based preamps from Cary, deHavilland and Supratek.
Looking for 50-100 watts of Tube Power (give or take) for my JBL 4349s @decooney While I didn't attempt to replace caps on the QS's, I did swap out the smaller tubes with ANOS Mullard CV4004's and CBS 12BH7 black plates... both of which yielded improvements over the stock tubes. I also preferred Gold Lion KT88's to ...
Looking for 50-100 watts of Tube Power (give or take) for my JBL 4349s The Audio Research 150 SE would be a nice choice, but I've always been under the impression that AR amps sound best paired with AR preamps in balanced mode. |
