CD duplicate...
I know it sounds pretentious, but I agree. I use Exact Audio Copy and then record onto black cd-r's at a low recording rate (1-2x). The resulting copies have more air and sound better. I have read (although I can't remember where) that in recordin...
How can unplugging a turntable improve digital?
I have no expertise on this but I have been told by friends that the main reasons for this phenomena are twofold:1. RFI - the connecting wires and power cord act as an antenna, putting out and receiving radio frequencies which color or cause artif...
Review: Meadowlark Audio kestrel 2 Speaker
Thanks for the review. I originally heard the Kestrel 1's(?) at one of the CES shows years ago, and after listening to a large amount of $5000+ speakers, these were the only ones at the show that I felt I could listen to more than 15 minutes. Very...
mp3 player: rip programs, best format?
I use Exact Audio Copy (EAC) to copy the piece of music to my hard drive. Even though EAC can convert to mp3, I then use Audiograbber to do the conversion, because it allows me to copy at 320-bit variable, which gives a very high quality mp3 file ...
Computer interferance-how close is too close?
I get lines on my TV when my PC is on, even though it is about 20 feet away. One suggestion might be to place a cotton cloth (towel?) between the PC and the audio equipment. Cotton has great RFI limiting qualities and it is cheap.
what's your favorite album cover?
No doubt about it..."Cheap Thrills" by Big Brother & the Holding Co. Great R. Crumb artwork and fun to look at in any state of mind.
soundstage
I may get disagreement here, but this is my view on soundstage. Side to side soundstage is enhanced by fewer drivers or more of a point source (i.e. old Tannoy speakers.) They can still be excellent provided that the drivers are in a single vertic...
Is this rude?
I have never had a problem when I have been honest and upfront with people. If someone came up to me and asked me to spend some time for my expertise, I would be able to make a clear decision if I have the time to do it. Also, I love talking to pe...
Where does the designation of "Audiophile" fit...
Definition from web: "one with extreme interest in high quality sound"I think this fits. I am an audiophile by this definition. However, there are people who are audiophiles that do not seem very interested in music. I am definitely a music lover....
Does Your System Sound Like the Real Thing?
I agree with Jond. I am often amazed at how close my system is when I play music back at close to the recording volume (or what I think it is.) That is usually a lot louder than most people listen. Also, how many times has some sound come across a...
CD Burning: What Route Should I Go?
I agree with Sonicbeauty...Exact Audio Copy is a great FREE program that copies quickly to the hard drive and makes high quality copies:http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/Does anyone know of a free or inexpensive program that will allow you to burn a CD...
What do you look like?
Although I don't quite fit the profile...I love the comment that Chicago Bears defensive lineman Steve McMichael once gave:"My face is too ugly for radio!"Just substitute internet. LOL.
Quality: vinyl then versus vinyl now...
Most LP's nowadays are not necessarily any better...just on heavier vinyl and quieter. I've been very disappointed in most companies pressing LP's today, spending more than $20.00 a pop, and being very disappointed in the sound quality. Many peopl...
Digital jitter and disk treament tweak
Eldartford...consider the average computer clock, which I believe is the same type of clock. I had always believed that these were near perfect because of the quartz oscillations (science & technology are perfect!...now where have I heard this...
Your favorite movement of Beethoven's 9th Symphony
I can think of no other symphony where each and every one of the movements is of such high caliber. My preference changes all the time. I fell in love with the Scherzo - 2nd movement when I saw Georg Solti with the Chicago Symphony in rehearsal pe...
