300B tube recommendation for SET amp?
I recently pondered Dogpiles' same question. Maybe another way to ask the question is, are there any 300b tubes that are unanimous losers? (EH?) If so, I can just experiment with the others.
SET for Orchestral , Big Band etc.
Thanx for all the great feedback. I went ahead and bought a Cary CAD 300SEI (Sophia 300b). For awhile, I'll be listening to headphones only (Senn HD650s). Speaker selection now is wide open. Actually, it's probably not. I have a really dinky room,...
Headphone connect direct to Amp
As a follow up to my own post, is this the best way to go? What are the relative advantages in sound quality by plugging: 1) directly into the source? my cd player has a headphone jack with volume control 2)Buying a tubed preamp with a headpone ja...
SET for Orchestral , Big Band etc.
Thanx Larryi. Nice analysis.
Klipschorn: Still relevant??
Yes! I'm definitely changing. My equipment is listed right now. However, that particular pair of Klipshorns I was interested in are no longer available. :^(
SET for Orchestral , Big Band etc.
I haven't bought my new speakers yet. I'm really starting from a clean slate. Only limitation is: Budget. Of course. Tomryan, you lost me at, "...easy phase angle through the crossover..." Can you break that down a bit for me. Also, which speakers...

Marantz Player Question
You didn't mention the SA8260. This is only CD/SACD though. Perhaps that is why you didn't??
Opinion on what power route I should go...$3000

Klipschorn: Still relevant??
Robm321, I guess that depends on what people are currently using. I think I have a nice pair of speakers but, want to move to SET amps. My current speakers won't work well with low powered speakers and I need a reasonably priced pair of high effic...

I just wanted everyone to know I appreciate the passionate responses and am digesting them all thoroughly.
Klipschorn: Still relevant??
Onhwy61; Well, I was hoping no one would ask me that. Because, I don't have a good answer. There is some truth in the observation however that I'm just changing to change. I'm mostly curious. I don't have a HiFi store near me, I've never been to a...
Klipschorn: Still relevant??
Onhwy61; "...,no - the Klipsch will not be better than what you have if by better you mean higher levels of fidelity." Yes, that is exactly what I mean. This is getting to the point of my original thread. Can you please expound on this a bit? What...
Klipschorn: Still relevant??
Well, it certainly appears that the Khorns are worth a try. I'm going to listen to a pair this weekend I think. For those of you who have or are willing to chime in, can you comment on how fussy they are with regards to room and placement?
