Are you recording your vinyl?
Stevecham, recording vinyl would have purpose if the playback is as good as the original (or tolerably close) - as some say it is.I'm not saying it is or can be - in my experience it's not - my experience is limited.
Are you recording your vinyl?
Thanks for the replies. Birdies, I'm sure I would have been more impressed with the Masterlink if I could have played back its files at 24/96 instead of 18/48 but even as it was I was very impressed. I said I could tell it from the vinyl but that'...
Sony SCD-XA5400ES-Best SACD for under $10,000
Audioholik, did Kal compare the 5400 and Oppo on both redbook and SACD?Funny - I had that issue and threw it out without reading the article.
Can Redbook CD Be Saved
Who agrees with me about the EMM Labs player? What's curious is half the pro reviews say it makes RBCD sound like SACD and the other half say about the opposite - SACD is miles ahead.I am firmly in the former camp. I have never heard RBCD so good. ...
Can Redbook CD Be Saved
One word: Meitner.Ok, more words: his gear makes RBCD sound like hi-res digital.
Has anyone had the $ 5k upgrade to their cdsa-se ?
A stock EMM CDSA is a ways ahead of an Resolution Opus (if that's the model you're referring to) on redbook - and does the Opus even do SACD? Good SACDs on the EMM machine rival vinyl setups of similar value IMO.$5K for an "upgrade" of a $10K play...
Sony SCD-XA5400ES-Best SACD for under $10,000
Thanks for the feedback. I used NOS 6SN7s but not the better cord. Perhaps my specific favorite recordings are just better on vinyl.P.S. My listed system here is very out of date. I still have my Audio Note DAC, though. I had a hard time deciding ...
Sony SCD-XA5400ES-Best SACD for under $10,000
Rfogel8, what kind of music do you listen to? I am curious for this reason: I have learned that comparisons of digital to vinyl are very music-sensitive.This is what I mean. I listen mainly to 40s-60s jazz and have found that, while good digital r...
Quads Unlimited Restored Quad ESLs
Drubin, I don't quite find that the Quads really punish bad stuff but, frankly, I do avoid bad recordings. :) Seriously.
SACD player
I meant to say "The ModWright Sony 5400 comes within spitting distance of good VINYL on good material."
SACD player
The Sony 5400 spanks the Marantz players. Yes, the Marantz players are 'warmer', but that does NOT mean they are easier to listen to or more like vinyl. IMO, they are not. They just have midbass hump and slightly rolled top end. (They are great on...
Question on ASR Emitter II Exclusive Battery
Mantis,You posted in a thread a few months before this one that you were considering an Emitter, heard it, and were glad you hadn't bought one. You obviously changed your mind. Just have another demo that went better? Just curious.
"Spitting" Cartridge problem
Ok, figured it out! The cart (through my Tom Evans Microgroove +X) is overloading the electronic volume control on my preamp. No problem with another pre.
"Spitting" Cartridge problem
Bill, I did not try that yet; thanks for the reminder.
"Spitting" Cartridge problem
NOPE...All leads were on VERY solidly. I removed them and applied some Walker SST carefully to the leads. No change.I am pretty stumped over this one.Oh, I also completely disconnected the anti-skate - also no change. And checked the VTF again.
